Mercury Retrograde 8/12-9/5

Hi y’all,

It’s that time again! Mercury goes Retrograde from 11 degrees Virgo to 28 degrees Leo, starting tonight and going until 5.30am MST on September 5.

Mercury went retrograde in Virgo last summer too, although it stayed in the sign. This time it backs up to the very degree of the Total Solar Eclipse (which happens 8/21) in the sign of Leo. This means all of the analytical reevaluation plus dramatic feelings on top! I think this particular retrograde phase will bring focus to the Virgo-ruled work environment. But this time it won’t be “am I doing the best I can do?” This time it’ll be “do I give two shits about what I am doing?” ARE WE HAVING FUN YET? will be the typical lament of this time. And you’ll really wonder…

iebfilehF7IsB-u1173758288_chmom.31147The chart for today that kicks off this retrograde has a LOT going on.

  • CARDINAL GRAND CROSS: Aries, Cancer, Libra, and Capricorn are activated in a dynamic, potentially disruptive way. People will tend to erupt, it might seem like the only way around an obstacle is directly though it. Tensions are high.
  • GRAND FIRE TRINE: Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius are activated in a flowing, harmonious way. Any spiritual impulses can be easily manifest into reality during this time. Mastery of the self is of prime importance: what you think, you will create.
  • MYSTIC RECTANGLE: Venus opposition Pluto and Mercury opposition Neptune create a tug of war on our shared perceptions and values. The answers are inherent to the problem, you won’t gain anything by avoidance.
  • KITE: Moon/Uranus opposition Jupiter and Sun/North Node/Mars trine Saturn puts others in focus, but we will not be inclined to give up any ground. Anything that crosses a line during this time will be challenged and put in check. We will be inclined to see limitations as teachers now, the opportunity to learn will be ripe with what seems like annoyances.

And that’s not all! But it’s all I wanted to try and unwrap right now. Basically, this is a very energized time but it can be unpredictable. A lot can be achieved if the whole time isn’t spent putting out fires. How long you spend firefighting will depend on how you escalate or deescalate a situation. Only you can prevent forest fires.

The other thing I find INCREDIBLY INTERESTING is that Mercury is backing up to the point of the Solar Eclipse. This event marks a new beginning on the Leo heart level, we will feel pulled in a new direction by those Leo heartstrings. There are new horizons to explore, and the heart won’t be content to stay put. This retrograde period is forcing us to analyze the circumstances surrounding this new event horizon. After Mercury moves direct on September 5, we will be more confident about those potentially life-altering decisions. The heart wants what it wants, and Leo’s motto “I Will” indicates that it’ll get it. Regardless of whatever else may get in the way…

So all in all, this retrograde gives us a veritable bevy of energy akin to throwing gas on a fire. How we allow ourselves to burn in response to others’ crackling vibes will be a marker of our success. Did we control burn the overgrowth or did we light up all of our bridges? Be careful to the fires you are tending. You can create anything now, it’s of paramount importance that you know what that is. Ripples of this retrograde will bounce back all year.

Cheers,

Will

Full Moon in Aquarius and Lunar Eclipse 8/7

Hey hey hey,

This upcoming full moon in Aquarius sets off the fall eclipse season. It won’t be visible here in SLC because the moon will have set and it will be daytime, but you can check here for lunar eclipse visibility. The full moon will take place at 15 degrees Aquarius on Monday, August 7 at 12:10pm MST, and the partial lunar eclipse will be exact at 12:21pm MST.

The Aquarius full moon (or the Sturgeon Moon or Green Corn Moon) is the natural development of intentions set during the previous new moon in Leo. Heart-level goals were the focus a few weeks ago, and this full moon shares and realizes those goals with those groups of people with which you identify. Long story short, it’s the time to put the focus on sharing your individuality with others. Aquarius is people-power, and an aspect of the sign I think is often overlooked is how your unique energy fits in with others. It’s not just the general Other People, but specifically Your People-and WHY they are your people. How do we fit in to the network that frames our lives? Not just what other people do for us, but conversely, what do we do for them? No man is an island, and this is an important time to open yourself up to others, to possibly meet new people you wouldn’t have the chance to before, and explore your identity within group dynamics.

Aquarius is also the sign of wishes and dreams, through it’s association with the 11th House. This should be an active time of getting out of your own bubble and going to see what’s going on in those other bubbles. Connecting with others is the name of the game now.

As far as the eclipse is concerned, it is a partial rather than total eclipse, so it won’t be as powerful as a total lunar or solar eclipse. It does, however, trigger events in motion that last til the next eclipse season in the spring. I think of them as a portal or doorway. The invitation is there for you to refocus and rejuvenate under a new kind of energy. As lunar eclipses always happen on a full moon, that burst of energy we usually feel while howling at a full moon goes subconscious and becomes internalized. This again has to do with Aquarius energy, how we relate and connect to others. This will last until the spring (we also have a total eclipse in Leo coming up toward the end of the month, and that will be an amazing time to settle into your own amazing creative fertility!).

There are also some amazing things happening in the sky at the time of the full moon eclipse, and they will carry through energetically til the next eclipse cycle:

  • MYSTIC RECTANGLE-a relatively rare astrological pattern consisting of two trines (harmonious flow of energy) and two sextiles (blossoming potentials energy). This formation has already begun as I write this on Saturday. The planets involved are Venus in Cancer sextile Mercury in Virgo trine Pluto in Capricorn sextile Neptune in Pisces, trine Venus in Cancer. (Check out the photo of today’s chart for a visual.) This particular gives me the impression that our feelings are in line with our communication, because we are recognizing how we are changing in the world and somehow coming to terms with our own spirituality. Long story short, we will have an understanding of our emotions, and how to accomplish tangible goals due to the insight the emotions provide. It also might be a time where we feel really pleasantly and choose to kick back and enjoy it. The amount of things that get done will depend on you, you’ll have these energies at your disposal.
  • MINOR GRAND TRINE-a more common pattern consisting of a planet creating a sextile between two planets that are trine. These planets are the Sun/North Node/Mars in Leo trine Saturn in Sagittarius and Jupiter in Libra sextile both. This formation signals creativity and growth, especially with the planet sextiling the trine. This is a massively positive energy to carry through eclipse season. The conjunction of Sun/North Node/Mars is making us aware of the mile markers on our life path and pressing us to be as creative and have as much fun as possible. This is trine Saturn, which is trials and tests. This means that this period of time gives us a solid foundation and understanding of our limits, but we will be in tune with it. We will understand that our trials are helping us get to where we want to go. And the sextile with Jupiter to both, from within the sign of Libra, means that our personal relationships will blossom and foster the growth of our creativity and our philosophical development.

This upcoming eclipse season will be an eye-opener! And our eyes will be on what we can create and share with others. There is some relief and new inspiration if we know where to look-in the microcosms of universes of the people around us.

Cheers!

Will
