Sun in Pisces 2/18-3/20

Hey everybody,

The Sun shifted into Pisces this morning at 4.31am MST. Pisces is the mutable water sign, the part of the zodiac where we give up our personal identity and wash back into the ocean, becoming one with everything again. Mutable signs herald the changing of the seasons, so we are moving out of winter. The days are getting longer and ostensibly warmer, we are gearing for the first day of Spring – and Aries – on March 20.

The twin-fish symbol of Pisces represents Aphrodite and Eros in their animal-totem form. Through it’s traditional Jupiter and modern Neptune rulership, Pisces is our spiritual connection to the Universe, to the Love that binds us together. The amalgamation of all the other signs, Pisces especially is the Everywoman. She is the combination of every other female in the zodiac, dreamily caught in the currents around her. The male tends to be less dreamy, focused more on making his dreams a reality. She is the dream, he is the drifter (this is straight out of SEXTROLOGY by Starsky and Cox, I love their stuff!).

As the last sign of the zodiac and the last water sign, Pisces is the culmination of experience. The first water sign is cardinal Cancer, and it represents the ebb and flow of the watery tides and currents, the flow of emotion. The following sign of fixed Scorpio represents an intense concentration and pressurization of the emotional force, the crystallization of diamonds and ice. In the depths of the ocean we find mutable Pisces. It’s the deep dark of our subconscious, the shadows that penetrate those depths. As Aries represents the beginning of life at infancy, Pisces is the closing of the journey through the zodiac. It is where we find endings.

Neptune is considered to be a ‘higher octave’ of Venus, lending a dreamy aesthetic and a sense of spirituality. Neptune rules cameras and how we view things through other people’s lenses. Wherever Neptune lands in our chart, the boundaries become unclear as its dissolving action washes everything away. Neptune’s influence through its rulership of Pisces can almost give us psychic impressions (especially Neptune in Scorpio). We can feel a great connection to the spiritual realm. But because the boundaries can become so unclear, so washed away, Neptune also is where we might be a bit delusional. Those mystic-seeming impressions can wash us away from shore and far away from where we want to be. Those with a prominent Neptune in their chart are cautioned against the influence of alcohol/drugs or other escapist/addictive traits. Neptune can pull us under the surface in a riptide if we aren’t wading in safe waters.

Pisces is associated with the 12th House of the zodiac-or the area just above the eastern horizon (the Ascendant). This is the house of suffering, hidden enemies and what lies below the surface of the subconscious. It’s correlated to hospitals, prisons, and institutions (the organizations behind the 9th House/Sagittarius system of beliefs and philosophies). The keywords to the 12th House are “Serve or Suffer.” When we have a lot of 12th House activity going on, it seems like things are coming out of the woodwork to get in our way. We seem to have a lot of pain during those times. But these things are for our spiritual edification, we can serve what comes up and gain the life lesson or we can suffer by not being open to the message.

Pisces, being a water sign, can get swept away by the force of their emotions. But not only their own! Everyone else’s too! They are incredibly empathic and pick up on even the subtlest shifts in the current. They might need a lot of time alone to be able to deal with being around a lot of people all the time, because all those other people create so many currents it can be a lot to deal with. It can take them a long time to find their own identity because they are feeling everyone else’s vibe all day for miles. As they learn and grow into their superpowers, they start to learn the shifts in the current and spend less time getting caught and swept away in it.

Happy Birthday, all you Pisces out there! Keep dreaming your beautiful dreams and teaching us how to stay connected to Spirit.

Cheers,

Will

Mercury in Aquarius 2/7-2/24

Hey hey hey,

Mercury entered the air sign of Aquarius last week on February 7 at 2.35am MST. Coming out of the previous retrograde and transit through earth-sign Capricorn, this probably feels like a very light time in comparison! The last six or seven weeks have had us making profound and concrete changes to our lives. Our minds have been on long-term steps toward lifelong goals. I didn’t write about the new moon in Capricorn (exactly conjunct that Mercury retrograde), because I was experiencing some major life milestones of my own. Things were taking shape that hadn’t done for ten years, placing me in a direction I hadn’t previously thought possible. I was also personally thinking about 10th house (Capricorn) matters, career moves were in my focus, and good things were piling up on top of each other in that regard. For me as an individual, it’s been a momentous time. Pluto is in Capricorn, giving energy to the transformations I’ve been going through.

So now, for the last week, Mercury has been able to lighten up and get some fresh air in Aquarius. Mercury (being associated with air-sign Gemini), loves to be in Aquarius, because he/she (Mercury is asexual) gets to connect and communicate a lot! That sign is the ruler of groups and networks, and shows us how we relate to those groups as an individual. Our minds will have an unusually quick mode of thinking, almost touching on prescient, prophetic hunches and impulses. Mercury is the ruler of intellect, communication, and expression, and Aquarius (ruled by Uranus) is all about innovation, connection, and equality. We will be eager for intellectual stimulation during this time. We’ve been doing a lot of hard work, and now through Aquarius’ connection to hopes and dreams, we get to enjoy the fruits of that hard mental work.

Our minds will especially be in groupthink/hivemind during this time. We will be especially connected to those bodies of people with which we identify. We will be more apt than usual to explore our thoughts intellectually, ‘arguing’ in an Aquarian -type way to make sure we understand our thoughts as well as we think we do.

We will want to talk more about social issues during this transit, because our minds are thinking about the People. Everyone believes what they think is the right thing (no one is a villain in their own narrative), and now we will have a great opportunity to see and connect with people who might not be in our everyday sphere. We will be able to intellectualize what it’s like on the other side of the tracks, whatever side we ourselves may be on.

This time will help us connect with each other, and what lies beyond, as we move toward Pisces season. During that time, we reach the ‘end’ of the zodiac, washing away our identity and merging into the Oneness of everything. This time is all about connecting to the world around us, and Mercury in Aquarius quickens and deepens that understanding.

Cheers,

Will

Jupiter Retrograde in Libra 2/6-6/9

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note about Jupiter going retrograde at 23 degrees Libra last week on February 6. The retrograde motion of the planets is an optical caused by our relative orbit. They don’t really change direction, but our position during the course of the year makes them seem like they slow down and back up along the ecliptic. All of the planets (other than the Sun and Moon-and yes I know they’re not really planets, but that’s what they’re called alright?) go retrograde at some point during the year. Mercury, being the fastest, closest planet to the sun, goes retro at least three times a year. Venus and Mars, less often, go retro every 18 months to two years.

Jupiter is further out, and spends about a year in each sign. He entered the sign of Libra last September, and you can read more about what that means here. When he goes retrograde, he goes for a couple of months, a good chunk of the year. This time, he stationed retrograde on February 6 and will station direct at 13 degrees Libra again on June 9.

What does that mean? We tend to feel the personal planets’ retrograde motions more because they affect our personal energies more directly. Like the other retrogrades, the invitation here is to inwardly reflect. At this time, we are closer to Jupiter than the rest of the year, so the energy tends to be closer to home.

During the time since Jupiter entered Libra, we have experienced a great evening out of the scales. Jupiter expands and blesses whatever he touches, and in the sign of Libra, we are expanding personal relationships and balancing them out. We’ve made great progress and growth since September (also around the last eclipses), and now the retrograde motion of Jupiter is asking us to find the internal balance to match the balance we’ve been striking with others.

What has shifted in your life that requires attention internally? Jupiter is called the great benefic, associated with truth and justice and the philosophies that govern the lives of women and men. During this time, the inner balance is of utmost importance. If we lack personal centering, it will be impossible to find with others. Internalizing how far we’ve come since last fall is the focus as we move closer to the summer. How we have grown and created with our partners, friends, and open enemies (under the influence of Libra) will help us balance our subconscious, inner world.

Jupiter will exit the shadow zone of this retrograde around September 11, before shifting into the sign of Scorpio on October 10. The themes we encounter from now to June will resonate until then, so pay mind to what comes up in the next few months. It will affect your trajectory as Jupiter prepares to change signs this fall.

Cheers,

Willie

Full Moon and Lunar Eclipse in Leo 2/10

Hi everyone,

The full moon is exact tonight at 5.33pm MST at 22 degrees of Leo, quickly followed by the lunar eclipse at 5.44pm MST. The full moon is when the Sun and Moon are opposite, so the Sun in Aquarius. The light of consciousness has fully illuminated the darkest corners of our minds, so we have full consciousness of our inner life. This is the time to take action, to make things happen that were planned during the last new moon. The new moon in Aquarius on  January 27 encouraged us to generate new intentions in regards to how we relate to  groups, how we find our individuality by being part of a group, our friends, and our hopes and dreams.

This full moon helps us do those things by giving our heart-level creative energies a spotlight. By letting your light shine, you help others to do the same, fulfilling the new moon intentions. Leo is the sign of personal power, creative drive and stimulation, fun and games. This full moon will make you very aware of what makes you happy! Let your heart energies burn bright, because that is how you will attract the people you want around you. Your vibe creates your tribe.

This full moon creates a Grand Trine in the fire signs: Moon in Leo, Saturn in Sagittarius, and Uranus in Aries. This is an interesting mix! Saturn is all about restrictions and boundaries, Uranus is all about breaking out of the mold and innovating, and the moon is about our emotions and reactive nature. The moon is grounded by heavy Saturn but electrified by rebel Uranus. We might have an unusually clear vision for our lives now. People with Grand Fire Trines in their chart have the superpower of transmuting spiritual matter into physical form. They can take their passions and make something seemingly out of thin air. This is the energy we are all working with as this full moon wanes over the next couple of weeks! Take your passions and make something real out of them. Nothing can stand in your way with both Saturn and Uranus backing you up. Knock down those walls in your way. Imagine new ways to be a creator. Leo is the sign of creativity, the synthesis of these energies can create new worlds.

The other crazy thing about right now is this lunar eclipse! Eclipses are said to be unpredictable, they are like a portal that sends us to another place. Think of the last eclipse in September…LOTS of things have gone down since then. This is very similar. Lunar eclipses last about 3-6 months, and I think the fire in this one will galvanize us. We will be thinking about things in a new way. Since the earth will be passing between the Sun and Moon, casting a shadow on what should be bright and full, there is an element of shadow at play. Our darkness will be coming out to play with the light. These shadows are important, they are a part of us and necessary to maintain the balance of energies along a spectrum. There might be an element of unconscious drives coming to the surface now as we play through this eclipse. Let those impulses be your guide to fun and adventure, things the Leo moon craves.

Let yourself be! Let your heart guide you, right now you can’t go wrong. And let yourself do what this moon is made for-HAVE FUN!

Cheers!

Will

Mars in Aries thru 3/9

Hi everyone,

Mars, the planet of passion, drive, and directive will, entered its domicile on 1/27 at 10.39pm MST. I just walked into work at Golden Braid Books and we got to talking about how there was a crazy energy shift on Monday. I think this was it! Aries is the sign associated with personal identity, its motto is “I Am.” So Mars is in its homebase all this month.

Mars was in Pisces from about December 20 through last weekend. He doesn’t like to be in that sign because Pisces is all about letting go of the self to become One with the universe. Mars is all about ME and WHAT I WANT, so that fire has been squelched for the last couple of weeks in the watery sign of the subconscious. This would lead us to feel a sense of sacrificing our personal energy for others-Pisces and its association with the 12th House is often summed up as “Serve or Suffer.” We might have felt like it doesn’t matter what we DO because ‘everything happens for a reason’ or ‘I don’t seem to have a choice, so why bother?’ We might have not been aiming at personal goals as strongly as other times, getting caught up in the deep emotional currents and dreamstate with which Pisces blesses us.

Mars is busting out! We are all of a sudden very aware that we (and everyone else) has a bunch of opinions, and are not afraid to make them known. It seems like what we want (Mars) is tied intrinsically to our perception of ourselves (Aries). So what might have been a simple disagreement a couple of weeks ago becomes a fiery battle of wills because it’s not just our ideas that are being challenged, but ourSELVES. Our will is who we are right now.

This fire is enhanced by Venus, entering Aries this very morning at 8.51am MST. We are fired up! Venus will be going retrograde next month and spending a lot of time in Aries this spring, I’ll have more on that later.

From Monday the 13th onward, Mars will be getting closer and closer to Uranus until the reach conjunction on the 28th. Uranus is the Awakener, it zaps whatever it touches with explosive energy. Uranus breaks out of the mold and refuses to be restrained, it has through its association with the sign of Aquarius a visionary nature. With Mars, the planet of personal will, joining forces with the astrological revolutionary, I think we will be taking the already powerful energy of Mars in its home sign and superboosting it with unpredictable results. This could express as feeling very personally empowered, feeling like we are a little bit invincible. We might also feel this as an external pressure, feeling challenges to our will as this unstable, electric, possibly motivational force. Either way, I think leading up to the end of this month we will be all fired up, and wanting to release that energy in a visceral way (…in bed lol). We won’t be inclined to let things lie, or smooth things over for the sake of a false peace. If we have something to say, we might say it without even thinking. Of course, we might later regret such hastiness, but this energy won’t allow us to contain ourselves. Because what we want is who we are right now.

All the Uranus action will be activating the long-standing T-square of Uranus in Aries square Pluto in Capricorn square Jupiter in Libra. I’ve described this in past posts, but basically we are having ‘growing opportunities to connect with others one-on-one’ having a tug-of-war with ‘new ways we are thinking about ourselves as individuals,’ all being challenged with ‘who we are becoming as a whole society.’ This is a time where things are changing with no small amount of struggle, and I think the energy of the next couple of weeks will clarify who we are individually and recharge the batteries of what we want out of what is going on in the world around us. Depending on how you handle conflict, this might make things more challenging. If you take things personal, which this will make us want to do, we might be more inclined to fight or come into conflict with others opposing us. In any case, we will be full of fire.

Feel the fire, baby! Use it.

Cheers,

Will
