Hey everybody,
The Sun shifted into Pisces this morning at 4.31am MST. Pisces is the mutable water sign, the part of the zodiac where we give up our personal identity and wash back into the ocean, becoming one with everything again. Mutable signs herald the changing of the seasons, so we are moving out of winter. The days are getting longer and ostensibly warmer, we are gearing for the first day of Spring – and Aries – on March 20.
The twin-fish symbol of Pisces represents Aphrodite and Eros in their animal-totem form. Through it’s traditional Jupiter and modern Neptune rulership, Pisces is our spiritual connection to the Universe, to the Love that binds us together. The amalgamation of all the other signs, Pisces especially is the Everywoman. She is the combination of every other female in the zodiac, dreamily caught in the currents around her. The male tends to be less dreamy, focused more on making his dreams a reality. She is the dream, he is the drifter (this is straight out of SEXTROLOGY by Starsky and Cox, I love their stuff!).
As the last sign of the zodiac and the last water sign, Pisces is the culmination of experience. The first water sign is cardinal Cancer, and it represents the ebb and flow of the watery tides and currents, the flow of emotion. The following sign of fixed Scorpio represents an intense concentration and pressurization of the emotional force, the crystallization of diamonds and ice. In the depths of the ocean we find mutable Pisces. It’s the deep dark of our subconscious, the shadows that penetrate those depths. As Aries represents the beginning of life at infancy, Pisces is the closing of the journey through the zodiac. It is where we find endings.
Neptune is considered to be a ‘higher octave’ of Venus, lending a dreamy aesthetic and a sense of spirituality. Neptune rules cameras and how we view things through other people’s lenses. Wherever Neptune lands in our chart, the boundaries become unclear as its dissolving action washes everything away. Neptune’s influence through its rulership of Pisces can almost give us psychic impressions (especially Neptune in Scorpio). We can feel a great connection to the spiritual realm. But because the boundaries can become so unclear, so washed away, Neptune also is where we might be a bit delusional. Those mystic-seeming impressions can wash us away from shore and far away from where we want to be. Those with a prominent Neptune in their chart are cautioned against the influence of alcohol/drugs or other escapist/addictive traits. Neptune can pull us under the surface in a riptide if we aren’t wading in safe waters.
Pisces is associated with the 12th House of the zodiac-or the area just above the eastern horizon (the Ascendant). This is the house of suffering, hidden enemies and what lies below the surface of the subconscious. It’s correlated to hospitals, prisons, and institutions (the organizations behind the 9th House/Sagittarius system of beliefs and philosophies). The keywords to the 12th House are “Serve or Suffer.” When we have a lot of 12th House activity going on, it seems like things are coming out of the woodwork to get in our way. We seem to have a lot of pain during those times. But these things are for our spiritual edification, we can serve what comes up and gain the life lesson or we can suffer by not being open to the message.
Pisces, being a water sign, can get swept away by the force of their emotions. But not only their own! Everyone else’s too! They are incredibly empathic and pick up on even the subtlest shifts in the current. They might need a lot of time alone to be able to deal with being around a lot of people all the time, because all those other people create so many currents it can be a lot to deal with. It can take them a long time to find their own identity because they are feeling everyone else’s vibe all day for miles. As they learn and grow into their superpowers, they start to learn the shifts in the current and spend less time getting caught and swept away in it.
Happy Birthday, all you Pisces out there! Keep dreaming your beautiful dreams and teaching us how to stay connected to Spirit.
Cheers,
Will
P.S. Used my emphemeris for the dates, used the Buddha Board at the Golden Braid for the InstaImage, and definitely paraphrased Starsky and Cox up in there.
