New Moon in Leo 7/31 & Full Moon in Aquarius 8/15

Hello,

This month’s lunar cycle should give a bit of a breather from the craziness of July. Things have been set in motion that we will be tracking with the transit of Mercury over the retrograde shadow zone through August 15- just in time for the Full Moon. As Mercury moves back from Cancer into Leo, we will be thinking more with our hearts and should be able to move into a new head/heart space. What do you think about the recent changes you have created and how do they make you feel?

The new moon in Leo on July 31 is considered a black moon because it is the second new moon in a calendar month (the first in Cancer was July 2). It is also considered a supermoon because it is at perigee, or the nearest part of its orbit. This can impact the tide, causing swells. Some astrology reports claim that there will be greater chance of ecological disasters, but we’re kind of in the middle of a global climate emergency. I think whatever the moon is doing can only help, lmao. The super full moons were earlier this year, and the following two new moons are as well. The moon is nearer the earth, signifying that the emotions will be deeper or more primal. My main thought about this, though, is that it is a normal occurrence and not necessarily as crazy as, say, the eclipse we just had at the last new moon. Supermoons are a part of an ongoing cycle, so if these enhance the energy, then this moon cycle is Big Leo Energy.

New Moons are a time to rest and recharge, to make plans and create maps for the month ahead. The New Moon on July 31 at 9.12pm MDT at 8° Leo is all about a new impulse of heart-level energy. What is fun and exciting for you and makes you feel cool doing it? What brings you a sense of personal pride? Where do you derive an internal sense of power? These questions are part of the Lion’s association with the astrological 5th house. Play, competition, and even gambling are up in this bitch. Leo follows the fire in their hearts, wherever it may lead. In fact, it was four years ago that I started my blog during the Leo New Moon. That led to joining the amazing team at Golden Braid Books, and now I’m a professional reader at one of the dopest places around. That heart-level impulse really created a whole new world for me. It felt kind of crazy and risky, but I’ve really enjoyed doing it over these years and will always think of the Leo New Moon fondly.

The Full Moon will bring to fruition all of those heart-level seeds that were planted during the New Moon in Leo. This will happen on August 15, 6.29am MDT at 22° Aquarius, where we take our personal energy and join our fellow man. The Water Bearer for which Aquarius gets its name is actually an air sign, fixed, giving a great concentration of mental energy. If Leo is personal power, Aquarius is people power. Its association with the astrological 11th house is all about networks, friends and associations, and ways we identify ourselves through societal groups. On another level, it’s about sharing dreams with the world and making them come true. It’s about offering relief to humanity through awareness and the gift of future-sight. And it’s about allowing each individual to shine while saving them space at the table. The Full Moon is a time to take action and shine based on the preparations of the New Moon. Go get ’em and make sure to share it big.

This moon cycle will also start to see actions being put into effect regarding the recent Mercury Retrograde in Leo/Cancer and especially the recent Eclipse in Cancer and the ongoing North Node in Cancer. Leo season will potentially see tempers flare. Hopefully this energy will bend towards justice and not toward despotism. Leo wants to be a good King or Queen and will roar to protect the pride.

The fire of this month will be activating off of all the Leo placements with Chiron in Aries and Jupiter in Sag, creating a grand fire trine for a number of weeks. I think this has the potential to be incredibly healing on a spiritual level – where we were once wounded, we will be able to heal and provide medicine for others.

Cheers,

Will

Full Moon in Capricorn 7/16

Hello,

Of course I claim Mercury Retrograde Probs in posting two days late, but the Full Moon in Capricorn on Tuesday was also a lunar eclipse which lit up – or dimmed – 24° ♑ . I took an astro.com chart of the moment around 2pm MDT, which shows that the moon and eclipse were not visible from here in UT (🌕 symbol at bottom of chart next to ‘IC’).

Full moons are typically time to take action, where we are energized by the conscious solar light shining on the subconscious of the moon. The New Moon in Cancer, which was also the total solar eclipse at 10° ♋, would have given impulse to the things requiring our attention now. The axis of Cancer/ Capricorn finds us navigating our inner and public workings.

Capricorn’s keyword is responsibility. Ruled by stern Saturn, it is the sign of longevity. Capricorn must always improve over time, like its animal totem sea-goat climbing from the bottom of the sea to the top of the mountain. It is the cardinal third earth sign, giving initiative to lasting effect through hard work. Capricorn is organized and strategic, and uses limitations not as hindrances but rather as stepping stones. Its association with the astrological 10th house also influences public roles in life as well as career aspirations and overall lifeplan.

The Full Moon in Capricorn is shining in conjunction with ruler Saturn as well as Pluto. Our attention will be drawn to responsibilities we must face, ones that will have Saturn long-lasting impact as well as Pluto disruption and transformation. There’s something very “Hanged Man” from the Tarot about this energy to me- you gotta do what you gotta do, but make sure this new perspective is leveling you up. That strong Saturn energy might make you feel trapped, but there is something you need to learn about this. In a practical sense, you might find yourself on a tighter budget than you’re used to, but you have to learn how to handle it by doing it.

In the public sense there are a number of things that are slowly reaching a boiling point. Regardless of your views, no one is immune from the pressure and churning dissatisfaction. The timing of certain comments made last weekend by certain megalomaniacs are amplifying the intensity of the conjunction of Saturn/Pluto/Full Moon. There doesn’t seem to be a respite as we all will be forced to deal with the fallout. The crisis of the North Node in Cancer lies directly opposite this full moon as well. America is being forced to self-identify and the process is painful at best. Hopefully the tension that this activates will encourage us all to do our part and make collective changes. We need to move into a mode of feeling everything personally, deeply. We cannot separate ourselves from the plight of others. We need to embody nurturing, empathetic Cancerian energy.

Adding to the melee is the Full Moon in opposition to Mercury Retrograde. You might not be observing as much progress as you’d like, keep chipping away at it. The Cap Full Moon likes to get things done, but it seems like your efforts are thwarted. Rather than take in the whole big picture at once, break it down into manageable pieces. You’ll be pleased if you can see your efforts through to the end. This Retrograde energy also has the potential to see communication colored by power struggles. Through the end of the month it’ll help to speak from the heart without forcing your hand. It’ll be easy to push too hard. Help people realize that you are on their team.

If you can use your limitations constructively, this time can be of great use. Keep your eyes on the prize, and get yourself ready to win it.

Cheers,

Will

New Moon/Solar Eclipse/North Node in Cancer 7/2/17

No biggie!

So the new moon will happen just about on the Midheaven here in Utah, around exactly 12.16 pm.

There’s a lot going on just as we’re about to head into Mercury Retrograde this weekend. And nothing brings me out of a posting slump faster than going off about Mercury Retrograde!

Check the video for details.

Also, here’s my post about the North Node in Cancer.

North Node in Cancer 11/6/18-5/4/20

Hey y’all,

A major transit that started in November was the passage of the lunar node into the sign of Cancer. It’s been in the sign of Leo for the last year or so, and I even wrote two posts about it.

Recorded this video around the new moon in Dec 18, hence seasonal decorations- and mostly I’ll let it do the talking.

Real quick in case I use this post later (lol), the north node shows us where we need to focus on growth and development. In the birth chart, it’s what we don’t know and are here to learn in this life. In transit, it gives insight to the challenges of the next year or so and how to be available to our full potential.

The sign of Cancer is all about being in touch with our own emotions. Like the crab in the changing tide, we look for security in the environment by clinging to what matters most to us- our loved ones, friends and family. Cancer is ruled by the moon and controls the emotional tides with its waxing and waning, meaning that our feelings come and go and change and develop over time. Are we going to ride the waves of the next year or get slammed by them?

Cancer is the archetypal Mother. Where it falls on our chart shows where we give and receive nurturing care. All these personal feelings and connecting to the maternal nature in all of us is a theme that might seem quite scary to a lot of people. Most of the time we cover up our emotions. But this next nodal phase is all about diving in to those waves to unlock the mystery.

I didn’t mention this in the video, but we all better start getting into this Mother Mode and go get all those kids out of jail on the US border. How can we not feel for our Fellow People? Hopefully this North Node in Cancer isn’t going to follow the trend and be another disaster for the US.

Anyhoo, I’ll probably do another checkpoint but here’s my hot take on the north node in Cancer:

Cheers,

Will

November ’18 was a Big Deal – OR – let’s get the hell outta Retrograde for the Holidays!

Hey y’all,

We are getting close to the end of Mercury Retrograde again, as Mercury stations direct at 27° Scorpio. The last time I blogged was the last Mercury Retro this summer, so I thought it was appropriate. In October and the first bit of November we were rocked by the less frequent Venus Retrograde, and this is what I thought about that. I would add that the advice I was giving to people in readings during Venus retrograde and its long transit through Scorpio this year was to focus on the kind of love one has to offer rather than the type of love one would like to receive. Here’s the video about Venus Retro (with a link to Uranus shifting into Taurus earlier this year):

And then right after Venus Retrograde ended, Mercury Retrograde started! We are on the tail end of the retrograde phase now, and will exit the shadow zone and move into new territory around Dec. 25. Here’s about Mercury Retrograde:

Another big year-plus transit that happened last month is the planet Jupiter moving into its domicile of Sagittarius through next December. Here is that video (with links to Jupiter in Scorpio and Jupiter in Libra from the last couple years for reference as well) :

And the biggie through the next little while is the lunar node shifting into Cancer! Take a listen to this video and let me know what you think (with both of the links that I made for North Node in Leo as reference):

See what I’m saying?? People were making jokes that 2018 took years but November only took about 20 minutes. It’s because there was a ton of stuff going on!

If you want to see how these changes are landing in your personal chart, schedule an appointment in person or by phone by calling Golden Braid Books at (801) 322-1162 and talking with the dopest staff in the world.

Sending you all the good mojo as we wrap up 2018 and get out of these retrogrades and into next year full tilt!

Cheers,

Will

It’s Super, It’s Blue, It’s Blood-It’s the Full Moon in Leo 1/31

Hey ho,

So let’s just jump right into the hype! It happens Wednesday, January 31 at 6.27-6.30ish AM MST. This rare series of events with this moon hasn’t been seen for 150 years. But what does it mean?

SUPER-This means that the moon is in its perigee, the time in its orbit that it’s closest to the earth. It will appear slightly larger than at other times, and this happens for about three of the twelve yearly moon cycles.

BLUE-This means that two full moons happen in the same calendar month. The previous full moon was in Cancer on New Year’s. It doesn’t turn blue. Actually…

BLOOD-This is the part where the eclipse comes into play. Since the earth will pass between the sun and moon, it’s shadow will fall over the moon at this time it would normally appear full. It’s ‘blood’-like qualities have to do with only certain wavelengths of color hitting the moon as it passes through the earth’s umbra (full shadow). It’ll be dark, but not like a new moon, and I’m thinking rusty-colored. Hence, blood. The eclipse makes it dark.

So! The moon is closer to the earth-just as it pulls on the tides, it has greater sway on our emotions. Two full moons this month means that a lot of stuff is going on-busy busy busy! And the eclipse energy brings us back to the dark-the subconscious, the primal, the reactive, instinctual nature. Whereas the full moon usually shines a light inside, now we are invited to take all that energy inward.

The significance of eclipses comes in the area of your chart it occurs. Where this takes place will stimulate changes, either through a crisis which causes response or a reevaluation as subconscious thoughts come to the top. Solar eclipses last six months to a year, and lunar eclipses three to six months. They are good markers for times of change in your life, I think of them as a doorway you walk through and evaluate on the other side. (Get in touch to get a reading!)

A full moon is the time to reap the harvest of what has been grown and developed since the the seeds were planted during the previous new moon (in the link I also mention the New Year Cancer Full Moon). In this case, it has to do with how we are developing our legacy. What are we doing to playfully create the path before us?

The eclipses are connected cyclically with the moon’s nodes, and I spoke about this year’s passage of the north node through Leo here. Because this full moon and eclipse take place at 11° Leo, conjunct the north node at 14° Leo, this will be a critical stepping stone during this year of self-empowerment and discovery. Are we really having fun doing this risk-taking and reevaluating stimulated by the solar eclipse at 28° Leo last summer? We might not necessarily feel like the Lion roaring, the energy of this eclipse might feel like foreign territory. We might have to take leaps without a net. The north node is what we don’t know, what we have to develop. But it’s what we need to learn right now. And truly, your heart, your deepest, most personal knowing place will tell you the right answers. Let your light shine, because the dark is calling. This is where we learn what our roaring means.

Remember that eclipses happen pretty much twice a year-since January last year they’ve been in Leo/Aquarius. This means that these eclipses are stimulating changes in the ways that we step into personal power and creativity (Leo) and how that relates to our networks and humanity at large – people power (Aquarius). I would say the US where I live has been seeing that in many ways-how do I relate to what’s going on with everyone else right now? Do I see myself as separate from ‘them?’ This summer they will start shifting into Cancer and Capricorn-which means next time it’s personal AND it’s business.

Shawn that I work with at the Golden Braid Bookstore says that eclipses are always positive events. And I dig that a lot. Make sure you are making the time to do what you love, and that it is in line with your overall plans. If you’re not having fun, this is the time to acknowledge it and drop it. And since this rare occurrence happens in the dramastic sign of Leo, always get ready for some drama fantastique!

Cheers,

Will

p.s. used my ephemeris to put this together!

North Node in Leo 5/9/17-11/6/18, or YAS QUEEN

Hi folks,

This is one that I have been sitting on since last May. Partially because it’s hard to explain and partially because I was nervous about how it would all turn out since I’m a Leo:) So new year, barreling toward this New Capricorn Moon, making me get some ish done.

The nodes of the moon are not an actual place, but basically a pair of moving coordinates in outer space. As the earth revolves around the sun, the moon revolves around the earth. The place where those two orbits intersect are the moon’s nodes. The place where the moon passes in front of the earth is the North Node, called the “head of the dragon” by the ancients. And the “tail of the dragon,” or South Node, is where the moon’s orbit passes behind the orbit of the earth.

The nodes are always exactly opposite each other, so right now the South Node is in Aquarius. The nodes also go in reverse of the motion of the planets. So on the tropical zodiac chart, the Sun and Moon and everything else revolve counterclockwise-they move through the signs from Aries to Pisces. So this fall, the North Node won’t shift from Leo to Virgo, but from Leo to the preceding sign of Cancer, moving clockwise through the chart.

In astrology, the nodes represent our destiny, our karmic contracts, what we are here to learn in this life. nbd, amirite? They suggest that we’ve been here and have carried things with us from prior incarnations that must be dealt with in this one.

The South Node is where we have been before. This placement in our charts helps us to understand things that come second nature to us, what we already know. In past lives, we were very much ingrained in the energy of the South Node and probably demonstrate many attributes of the sign (Maybe why some folks think they don’t sound like their newspaper horoscope?). I’ve heard it described as the comfort zone-it’s how we know how to operate. If we stay embedded in the qualities of our south node for too long, however, we fail to progress. We stop learning, we never leave the nest as it were, we don’t tap into what this life has to offer us. In our earlier life, we must first become aware of, and then master the lessons of our intrinsic nature.

When we have learned those lessons, it is then we begin to unlock the secrets of the North Node. I’ve heard people say that you don’t even really start messing with it til after your Saturn Return (around the age of 30). The North Node is what we are here to be in this life. It’s what we don’t already know, though-it’s outside of that comfort zone. It requires conscious effort to develop it, it doesn’t just happen. When we move into the North Node, we shine, we grow, we kick ass and take no names.

Leo is the sign of kingly or personal power, where fun and games take center stage. The inner child is a reference to this sign, as well as relationships with children. Leo is a fire sign, denoting spiritual energy, passion, and initiative. It’s a fixed-sign, meaning that it saves and stores energy like a magnet. The heart and spine are the parts of the body where Leo metaphorically operates, the two being linked to the Lion’s motto “I will” (Like I named my blog, get it?). Creativity and expression are a part of Leo’s association with the 5th House, where we do things for our own pleasure.

Conversely, its opposite sign of Aquarius is all about people power, where wishes and dreams become fulfilled. Aquarius is about how we all share, the ways in which we connect, and our individuality within the masses. Aquarius is like the circulatory system, carrying the blood through the whole body-or like the ankles and shins running the message to all the people.

SO. This year’s movement of the North Node through Leo is asking you WHAT KIND OF KING OR QUEEN WILL YOU BE? The energy is about moving into the foreign territory of being a leader through personal example. We know how to be a part of a group, and now we need to have the People in mind as we creatively use our personal power toward our own goals. If we have mastered the lessons of South Node Aquarius, we will be the kind of ruler that has the people’s interests at heart already. This is literally the year to FOLLOW YOUR HEART. It will be scary and seem foreign, but pushing for that growth is how we keep expanding those horizons. It might feel at times like you are doing things alone, but that’s part of the lesson, too-taking accountability for your own intentions and actions. It’s your life-hold yourself responsible for who you are going to be and where you are going to go. Be the boss.

Things are pretty tense in the world right now, but a part of what we have to teach ourselves during this time is to HAVE FUN. We have to seek it out and hunt it down like lions on the prowl…or kittie cats, or something. Jupiter in Scorpio is all about transformation this year, bringing a lot of painful things to the surface, with intense emotion. We’ve spent a lot of energy merging forces with others, or conversely, letting go of connections. It’s also kind of a big deal that under the sign of the king, Saturn shifted into Capricorn, which is about public life, career, and legacy. We have transitioned from a fiery, idea-driven time to the time where we face the consequences of those ideas. The energy is heavy, and yet we must learn to open our hearts and let our inner children play. There’s such a focus on the collective now, that it’s up to us to make sure that our personal fun tanks stay filled. Those fun tanks are the key to knowing if we’re on the right track this year. If they aren’t staying full, it’s time to check in and reassess.

I wanna make some kind of snarky comment about media personalities trying to act like kings, but that would be gauche. And too easy.

Here’s a chart I drew for the upcoming New Moon. Part of why I’m writing this North Node update now is that I think the upcoming month or so will be a crucial time for us to be aware of on our personal journey through North Node Leo.

New Moon in Cap Chart 2018

So you can see the North Node in the bottom right of the picture at 14 degrees of Leo. Its opposite sign is Aquarius (wavy lines symbol, not a great hand-drawn chart). Between the New Capricorn Moon on 1/16 and the New Aquarius Moon on 2/15, a bunch of those planets will pass through the South Node in Aquarius-Venus 1/30, Mercury 2/9, Sun 2/14. This means they will be in opposition to the north node. I think that during this time there will be some kind of crisis, making us aware of whether or not we are in line with our personal goals. We may be complacent as the planets pass through the South Node, relying too heavily on others or blaming others for our shortcomings. This next lunar cycle will be the place where we saw our plans materialize or fall apart. Mars won’t oppose the North Node til 6/8-10. So if we are ready now, the final push of this node cycle this summer should be easy. Later this fall the priorities change as the North Node shifts into Cancer, so make sure you get your heart right now-especially over the next month or so. Picking up momentum later will be hard.

Hope you are having a wonderful year developing your kingdoms. I personally have changed up a bunch of things and thrown myself off a cliff following my heart. Thanks for joining me on my journey.

Cheers,

Will

North Node in Leo 5/9/17-9/6/18

Hey ho,

This one has been a long time coming. I had a lot of ideas about it, but didn’t really know how to express them. So here goes.

The moon’s nodes are the points where the moon’s orbit around the earth crosses earth’s orbit around the sun. The north node is where the moon passes the earth’s orbit in front, and the south node is where it passes behind. They will always be opposite each other. In the natal chart the nodes indicate your soul’s journey through this life. The nodes represent where you are coming from and where you are going. The south node is what we already know or have carried with us from ‘past lives.’ This is our comfort zone, the place where we operate from an instinctual level. If we don’t overcome the challenges inherent to our south node, it will be impossible to move into the new territory of the north node.

The north node represents what we are here to learn in this life. It’s what we don’t know, what is foreign to us, and what we are here to master. The north node is the idealized version of ourselves, having learned and mastered the impulses of the south node to step into new territory.

The north node in Leo, in short, is about what you love doing and how doing that makes you the king or queen you are going to be. Leo is the sign of royalty, kingly or personal power, and creativity. Leo rules the heart and its passions. This next year is about stepping into your own personal interests and authority.

The way we get there is by honoring the lessons of the south node. In Aquarius (Leo’s opposite sign), people power is key. How does this affect not only me, but everyone else? This year means that we need to be moving away from putting others’ needs and especially wants before our own. It’s important to realize that we do fit into our groups, but now is the time to follow our own hearts. It’s the time to create boldly based on our own interests rather than checking in with the committee.

The lesson of moving from south node Aquarius to north node Leo is that in order to be a good ruler, one must understand the needs of the people. If you have mastered the south node in Aquarius, you operate from a place of harmony with others. You don’t overly depend on the opinions of social groups to get things done. But by the same token, you aren’t going to act tyrannically as you step into your Leo north node. You will have learned leadership skills and how to shine on your own.

This next year or so is you stepping into your own autonomy. What kind of ruler will you be? Will you follow your heart or try to exert control over others? Will you build up the People or be torn apart by them?

This lesson is personal and Universal. What kind of leaders will we be? How will we lead? It’s the time to step into the spotlight and use the force of your will (another Leo keyword) to create. What kind of leaders will we follow? What kind of kingdom are we creating for ourselves, and as the lesson of south node Aquarius teaches, for each other?

Cheers,

Will
