Full Moon in Cancer 1/12

Hey hey,

Quick overview: Sun in Capricorn, Full Moon in Cancer at 4.34am MST 1/12/17

The last time the full moon happened in Cancer, it was Christmas day 2015. I didn’t write a blog about that one because I was SO FAR up in my feelings, and that’s what this moon does. First of all, Cancer is ruled by the moon. In a chart the moon is our emotional center, how we subconsciously process and react to things. I think of it as the internal realm, where people are usually aware of our external, conscious sun energy. Where the moon is located will show us where we will ebb and flow like the tides it causes. The full moon always shines a light on the area of the chart it falls, and is the culminating time of the previous new moon.

The last new moon was in Capricorn, sun and moon in same sign at 7°, meeting up exactly with Mercury retrograde (which I talked about a lot in the last post.) The Mercury rx energy is really infused into this whole moon cycle of Capricorn, this whole month. The new moon is the time when the moon is dark and primal, the impulses that are born during this time have not yet been lit by the conscious light of the sun. New drives in Cap energy have us focused on our long-term life goals, how we are going to build our legacy, and how to create in the physical realm all of the fiery, spiritual philosophies of the previous cycle of Sagittarius. And I have to say that the reason I didn’t post about the new moon when it happened a couple of weeks ago, on December 29, is that I was having some major life changes going on! I was learning to rethink the trajectory of my life. It sounds dramatic, and it is. But it’s not my story to tell, I just got to watch it unfold. And it’s good! Seems scary, but an astrologer I work with, Shawn, talked to me about how Capricorn is about moving through fear. People are having this crazy life-goals, Mercury rx, T-square, gotta focus on the big picture-type energy going on, people are figuring it out.

So that brings us to this full moon! The moon is on the opposite side of the chart today, and is in its home sign of Cancer. Cancer is the deepest part of our soul, the most private part of ourselves. It’s why Cancer is the Crab, because it hides its vulnerable parts (maybe we’ll talk about the clinging pincers another time). In the chart, Cancer is associated with origins and the past/memories, energy you’ve inherited from your mom, and your innermost soul. It’s the moment in your life development when you discover your own individuality, the core of your inner realm. So when the moon is in its home sign and all lit up like today, that means a big spotlight of consciousness is glaring into all the nooks and crannies that usually stay dark. A keyword of any full moon is heightened emotions, but this is heightened emotions AND comprehension of all those dark places. Our souls are exposed right now, there’s nowhere to hide. The position of the moon now also makes that T-square going on into a full-blown Grand Cross for a day or two. We will have a lot of attention drawn to things that need action to be taken. Whether that motivation is an internal pressure or a response to external circumstances, right around now we will be feeling the need to GET IT DONE.

Learn from what comes up now! The reason this is the culmination of the new moon in Capricorn is that we can fully connect internally to our new life goals. If we don’t have that deep soul connection to our objectives, then how would we accomplish anything? It’s generally the idea the most opposite signs are Cancer and Capricorn, the internal and the external, the personal and the worldly. But in this moon cycle, they work in tandem. We have to shine a light in the dark corners to make sure we know we’re on the right path.

On another train of thought entirely, this last moon cycle has been exactly on point productive as far as life and career goals. I’ve been developing a personal website for my day job, and having the goal marks of going public today during Mercury in the retrograde shadow zone happening has been a trip! I’ve been working on these public career goals, and yet going live with it today seems apropos because it’s intensely personal, it’s really my soul out there for anyone to see. This website building could have happened anytime, but it’s poignant that it’s now. The idea that these cycles always happen, I have a couple of weeks to implement an idea before the full moon, etc. That idea gives deadlines, an exquisite pressure, to accomplish whatever goals you want. I continue to like the idea of astrology as a meditative practice based on natural cycles (even though the mystical element appeals to my more romantic side). Set a goal, go do the thing. Do it with the moon behind you, and watch out! Hahaha.

Thanks for reading!

Cheers,

Will

Mercury Retrograde 12/19-1/8

Hi everyone!

We’re already a couple of days deep into the latest Mercury Retrograde! It stationed retro on Monday, Dec. 19 at 15 degrees of Capricorn,  and will go until stationing direct at 28 degrees of Sagittarius on January 8 of next year. Here’s a quick list of dates pertinent to this Rx:

  • Mercury in Shadow Zone (thru area that Retrograde backs up to): 12/2-1219
  • Mercury Retrograde from 15 Cap to 28 Sag (backing up): 12/19-1/8
  • Mercury in Shadow Zone (once more thru the same area): 1/8-1/29

A retrograde is a time when a planet seems to slow down and stop, then proceed backward for a time. The planets don’t really change direction, of course, it’s all an optical illusion based on the Earth’s rotation and orbit around the sun. Mercury, the fastest moving planet, goes retro about three or four times a year. When a planet goes retrograde, it’s generally the thought that the energy expression of the planet goes inward. So for Mercury, the planet of intellect, communication, and expression, it kind of gums up the works. ‘They’ say not to sign contracts or make major life decisions during this time, because in general, we’re not ‘thinking straight.’ Arguments and disagreements might pop up a lot during this time, but if we are aware of the energy, we can choose a different outcome.

This Mercury Retrograde is very similar to the short one we experienced in January, which I described here: Mercury Rx in Cap January 2016.  I think this retrograde is so similar because we are dealing with the repercussions of choices made during the last retrograde in Capricorn. What have we done to reach the goals we set during the new year? Mercury stops right on top of Pluto for a couple of days around the 19th, so we will be aware of situations dealing with power struggles and deep transforming truth. It will be a theme of the entire retrograde: How am I building my career? What are my goals in larger terms, aka what will be my legacy? Who or what is at odds with these goals?

However, there are some differences with the current configuration. Jupiter in the sign of Libra is activating a T-square (a very tense aspect). Jupiter is expanding relationships in the sign of Libra, the scales are evening out. People are more willing (and really, more in need) to help others, and imbalances in the give and take have a spotlight on them right now. This is in almost direct opposition with Uranus in Aries, which is zapping that relationship energy with a tug-of-war of individuality and personal power. We are expanding in our relationships right now because we are experiencing an internal revolution in the way we see ourselves. This is creating chain reactions of collaborative efforts and I’m definitely seeing people redefining themselves because of how they are relating to each other. Artistic folks are brimming with ideas and itching to get them out of the ether. Both of these planets are at at a square (the most tense aspect) to Pluto -and Mercury- in Capricorn. Pluto is transforming how we present ourselves to the world. We are evolving, and the T-square in effect through next year, basically, means that this is a time of critical attention. Things seem tense because we are reevaluating what we are putting into the world at large, due to the personal revelations we are having because everyone’s bouncing off of new energy right now.

Also, thinking about the progression of retrogrades this year, it’s interesting to me how they’ve moved through the earth signs. The one in January started in Aquarius, then moved back through Capricorn. This gave the opportunity to reflect on our dreams, and what actions we take to manifest them. Then in April and May, we shared the retrograde through Taurus, the first earth sign, in which we took a look at our values and self-esteem (am I getting paid what I’m worth? Am I creating what I want to see in the world? What is my power to create?). Later in August and September, we experienced the retrograde in Virgo, the second earth sign, in which Mercury in its home sign really helped us navigate the details of HOW we get things done, when we do, and whether that is eating up our time or really paying off. Now we’re back to the Capricorn Mercury Retrograde, and having gone through the steps this year, are ready to review what our goals are and whether or not we achieved them.

Interestingly, we started this retrograde madness this year in Aquarius (January 5-8, 2016), and are ending it with a pass through Sagittarius (January 5-12, 2017). What this says to me is that our hopes and dreams, and possibly even group relations set us on a journey of building this year. We went through the earth signs on our Mercury Retrograde journey of 2016, which is all about what we manifest and create in physical reality. It’s been a critical year, and this retrograde is all about stringing the choices we’ve made together into something cohesive and lasting. What we leave behind seems more important now than maybe earlier this year, maybe it wasn’t something we were thinking about before. Near the end of this cycle of retrogrades, we will be passing through Sagittarius one more time. This means that the influence of others will have less sway than it did when we started almost a year ago. We’ve learned a lot, seen a lot, and there’s no going back to where we were before. This final movement through Sag will ensure we are standing in our own truth. If we are not, this cycle will be quite jarring. If we are not willing to observe the truth, even if it is uncomfortable, we will not be able to properly create the world we want to live in. This is a critical time, where we must be willing to see truth, to speak truth, and to take right action.

Thanks so much for reading, and look forward to some changes by the end of this retrograde. Going over all the details has my mind spinning with possibilities!

Cheers,

Will

Mercury Retrograde in Virgo 8/30-9/21

Oh hey,

It’s that very special time again! Mercury Retrograde is upon us. Mercury, the planet of communication, intellect, and expression has been in its home sign of Virgo since July 31. When a planet is in its domicile, it has full use of its faculties and full access to its powers. Mercury also rules the sign of Gemini, where it loves to talk and kick ideas around. In Gemini, Mercury is fast and flighty, making sure it’s up to date with the latest news and gossip. In the sign of Virgo, that energy changes. In Virgo, Mercury is slower, more methodical, and takes care to integrate and implement the ideas generated in Gemini with the deep feeling of Cancer and the burning pride of Leo. For me, Gemini Mercury gives great ideas and Virgo Mercury makes that shit happen.

Since Mercury has been in Virgo since the end of July, we might have noticed a lot of hard work getting done in the month of August. Did I mention I built a fence? Virgo Mercury is awesome with the details. Under this influence, reasoning and research are paramount, and because of this approach, it’s an excellent time for planning and organizing, getting all the ducks in all the rows. I just have to say right now that math IS important, and I DO use it in real life. Fuck what the haters say! Had I not mathed out and planned ahead, my fence venture might have ended in tears. This Virgo Mercury lends itself to mental prep, going over every possible outcome. Under this influence, we aim for precision and perfection. I really like how Aepril of Aepril’s Astrology puts it: the keyword of Virgo is INTEGRATION, having to do with making oneself whole, putting all the pieces together. Something else Virgo is great at, working with their hands to create a new whole.

Similarly to the influence of the concurrent Venus in Virgo, something that might happen is a lot of worrying about all those details. We might have a lot of critical self-talk. Because our minds are so focused on manifesting our great ideas, we might lose the forest for the trees a bit during this time. It’s important to take a step back and realize how far we’ve come while getting down and dirty with the minutiae.

We have an awesome kickoff to this retrograde with the conjunction, or joining, of Mercury with Venus and Jupiter on August 28. This will help us with ease of accomplishment after the crisis of the Mars/Saturn conjunction over the last few weeks. The blessing of all these benefic planets in the same place, between 27-28° Virgo, will bring our attention to our wellbeing and healthy habits, which is excellent before the Virgo New Moon. Jupiter is expanding and blessing, Mercury is handling all the things, and Venus is helping us enjoy our senses and the things we find pleasurable, and all of this in the sign where we can make anything into physical reality. So let’s make it happen over this weekend, and have a good time doing it!

Now for the Retrograde. A Retrograde occurs when a planet seems to move backward in the sky. It doesn’t actually change direction, but its orbit relative to the earth makes it seem like it is. When this occurs, the expression of the planet’s energy changes. It goes inward, because during a retrograde, that planet is actually closer to the earth. When we go through a retrograde period, that planet goes over the same portion of the zodiac three times. It slows and stops (called stationing), backs up and stations again, then moves forward (or direct). The area it backs up over is called the shadow zone, and we feel the effects of the retrograde from the time the planet enters the shadow zone to the time it leaves.

This spring’s rx was in the first earth sign of Taurus. It had to do with self-worth, really going over if what we were manifesting lined up with our core values. This retrograde, again from Aug 30-Sep 21, is in the second earth sign of Virgo. So the things we are reevaluating here are similar, but it’s not so much about how secure we feel. This retrograde is a revaluation of how we do the things we do. We will be going over how our routines and schedules are helping our hindering us. We’ll be deciding if the way we work is working for us. Not only does this feel right and align with me, but am I doing it the right way? Am I accomplishing what I need to in a way that is efficient and continuing to work for me?

During the last retrograde in fixed sign Taurus, folks seemed stubborn and it felt like any challenge was an assault on our very foundations. This Virgo Mercury Retrograde will be a bit different, not quite so intransigent. The mutable, or changeable, quality of Virgo will allow Mercury the room it needs to breathe. It’ll allow Mercury to change its mind when new information is presented. Though it is a period of going over our intellectual processes, during this retrograde I feel like our minds will be able to process and focus on the details. We’ll be much sharper, possibly much more critical subsequently. During this time, our minds will be on Virgo issues. We might be reevaluating our diet and exercise regimes. We might be reevaluating our jobs and how we interact with our co-workers. Our schedules and how we manage them will come up, and if it’s not helping you, this would be the most excellent time to reevaluate.

There’s always a bit of miscommunication during Mercury Retrograde, but I think we’ll be more apt to think before we speak this time. Again, a danger here is that we might be so hyper aware of the little things that people might be bothering us because they can’t possibly live up to the vision we can see. Basically, what I’m saying is be aware of critiquing others during this time, we might be brutal without realizing it. The biggest communication problem during this rx might be a tendency toward perfectionism with a sharp tongue.

Hope you have an awesome September! This is a great time to make sure things are working the way you want them. Go get em:)

Cheers,

Will

New Moon in Gemini

Hi there,

The new moon in Gemini happens this Saturday the 4th at 8:59 pm Mountain Standard Time. I may or may not have said Sunday in the video, so…my bad.

Decided to do a lil video update since this new moon is in Gemini.

Don’t think I got to it in the video, but also interesting rn is Mars Retrograde, currently in Scorpio. Retrogrades make energy closer, more inward because the planet itself is actually closer. Lots of internalized energy in terms of will and passion. This had been in Scorpio for awhile, was in free Sag for a bit but now we’re back. More skeletons in the dark Scorpio closet, maybe more things to let go of from the past. Issues in expressing will in close, bonded relationships; maybe this internalized Mars energy has you or your close partners acting in different ways? Dunno but in general, lots of scheming, especially in this chatty Gemini weather. All under a grand cross as well, so there are a lot of things coming to a boil right now. Keep an eye out.

I referenced ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ASTROLOGY by Nicholas Devore, THE NEW AMERICAN EPHEMERIS FOR THE 21ST CENTURY by Rique Pottenger based on Michelsen, and THE ONLY ASTROLOGY BOOK YOU’LL EVER NEED by Joanna Martine Woolfolk.

New Moon in Taurus

The new moon this evening occurs at 16° Taurus. New moons are a time to plant seeds that will grow into the full moon and pass my the next new moon. These cycles are said to be a time when the light of consciousness (sun) shines over the dark of our subconscious (moon), so we are more primal and less aware at this time. It’s important to channel your intentions in a way that is constructive, rather than excessively or destructively compulsive. New moons are also good times for gauging what is working and what isn’t from the last moon cycle.

With the new moon in Taurus the focus is on creating and relishing in your personal value, developing the senses, and finding solidity within yourself.

Taurus is related to the 2nd House of Values. This isn’t in relation to anyone else, this is only within yourself. It’s what you value and how you value it. This is what’s ‘mine.’ My money, my self-esteem (how much I value myself), my food, my drinks, my stuff, my my my, etc. This isn’t to say that Taurus folks aren’t generous, they just know what’s theirs, y’know? The new moon here gives new impulses to how you value what is yours.

Taurus folks are very sensual, being ruled by Venus, the goddess of love, beauty, and aesthetics. If you have a lot of Taurus in your chart, you might be a foodie or wine connoisseur, you might be into your fashion, the point is you really love your senses and you always want them to be stimulated in a way that is comfortable and usually stylish. A new moon here can stimulate the senses, giving new appreciation for old things or deeper appreciation of how your body can make you feel.

Taurus is the sign of the Bull, and its natives are known for being immovable objects. They might not be aggressive, but when provoked they might gore you through and stomp you to death. This is extreme. Their Venutian qualities tend to prevent such circumstances, but I’d they have made up their mind to something or not, that thing will or will not happen regardless of anyone’s outside input. A new moon in Taurus suggests developing the will. It’s the first earth sign, and first fixed sign, so it’s the solid ground within yourself on which you stand.

Something else about this new moon is that Mercury Retrograde will be passing over the same point, 16° Taurus, around May 14 and 15. If you made a decision now, it might come under review, possibly scrutiny, in about a week or two, and then again right around the end of the month on the 30th and 31st. This will be expressed through Mercury, so thru communication and intellect rather than a more emotional or spiritual channel. You will be learning a lot as Mercury passes over your new moon intentions; about your self-esteem, how you value money and collect it, how your body feels and supports you and vice versa. Get into your senses and trust the ground on which you’re standing. If you can do that, this Mercury Rx over this new moon will be a great time to find out why and make constructive changes.

Hope you have a great new moon, thanks for following my stuff!

Cheers,

Will

Mercury Retrograde: April 28-May 21

Using my trusty ephemeris, Mercury Retrograde started on April 28 and goes until May 21. The god/symbol of communication appears to go backward in the sky, relative to earth’s orbit. This happens a couple of times each year, and this time it goes back from 23° Taurus to 14° Taurus.

What does that mean? It means the first time Mercury hit 14° Taurus was about April 15. At that point we entered the “shadow zone,” the area that is passed, reversed over and passed again. Three times Mercury goes over the same space! Wherever those degrees of Taurus land in our chart will be evaluated and reevaluated, those degrees get the third degree, you know what I’m saying?

They say that during Mercury Retrograde you shouldn’t sign contracts or make serious life decisions. But there’s almost a month of it this time, you can’t just sit around and do nothing til May. We’re just processing information in a different way. It might seem like there are breakdowns regarding anything to do with communication: actual conversations, emails, texts, etc. People have a harder time understanding others and being understood. Mercury rules communication, rational thinking and information processing, how we think basically and how we express our thoughts. When it backs up and goes over the same area like this, our thoughts collect themselves differently.

There are a lot of different interpretations of this. In ancient times it was considered a bad omen, no transactions would occur if the gods did not agree. In a more contemporary sense, it is a frustrating time because the messages aren’t getting through. Because retrogrades happen when the planets are closer to the earth, some say that the energy is internalized rather than outwardly expressed, the planet goes to the ‘underworld.’ This might account for communication breakdown during Mercury Rx because what normally goes out to other people goes instead to the inner life. We aren’t thinking the same way.

In the sign of Taurus, all I can think with this Rx is “got my mind on my money and my money on my mind.” Taurus is the 2nd zodiac sign and is associated with value: worth, esteem (especially self), your coins, etc. Taurus wants pleasant surroundings to enjoy all the senses, very much in the body. It’s the first fixed as well as earth sign, this makes Taurus generally calm but immovable. So with Mercury flying around in our zone of things that are ‘mine,’ we might have some communications that might not go anywhere. Everyone is reevaluating their self-worth, self-esteem, how those coins are piling up (or not). This makes everyone defensive of what is ‘mine.’ Mercury is going over everything with a fine-toothed comb, and we might bristle as our sense of self worth seems challenged. You also might be thinking about the way you collect money, is it working for you, are you getting paid your value?

The reason they say not to make life decisions during Mercury Rx is because generally when it’s over and we’re back through the shadow zone, you’ll feel more like yourself again. These times of intense scrutiny, especially right now over what we hold to be dear, to be part of us, can be very trying. My thing over the last couple of days when I feel there are hiccups in communication is to kinda shrug it off, jokingly say, “It’s Mercury Retrograde,” and move on. If I can see the conflict, I’m not going to escalate it in any way. Of course, if there’s some major stuff you need to change or confront, you gotta do it. It’s never more important to be perfectly clear than in these times when people are likely to misunderstand. Don’t use your communication to fight, but fight to communicate.

Mercury will go forward, or direct, again on May 22. This will be the last pass, so hopefully everything got settled during your retro. We’ll pass 23° Taurus again on June 8, and at that point our ccommunication, especially in relation to our self-value, will move into new territory.

Thanks for reading my stuff, even when I post about Mercury Rx as it’s already happening.

New Moon in Capricorn

The new moon is a time to look at new goals over the next month. The earth comes between the sun and moon, and the moon goes dark in the earth’s shadow. The sun and moon are said to be joined, the convergence of the masculine and feminine giving birth to a new moon cycle. This time they come together in the sign of Capricorn.

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn. In traditional astrology, it’s considered the ‘dark sun,’ the opposite point to both the sun and moon, the ‘luminaries.’ It’s the last of the planets you can see with the naked eye, and because of its distance, it’s the dimmest. It was called the Great Malefic, and its placement in the chart was said to cause illness, breakdowns and bad luck. In contemporary astrology, it’s thought of more as the great teacher, placing obstructions in our path to elevate us through trials and building character. The Saturn Return, around the age of 30, it’s a crucial time where folks either delve into life lessons and transcend or run away and continue the trials until they are faced.

Which brings us to the keyword of anything having to do with Capricorn energy: responsibility. We either take responsibility or avoid it. Rules are there for a reason. Structure exists to refine form. Under Sagittarius, we grow, exponentially. But we can’t just expand. We have to set limits so we can define goals. That’s what Capricorn is about, reigning things in so that they are manageable and able to be realized.

Capricorn’s association with Saturn also puts an emphasis on longevity and time-honored tradition. Structures exist because they are proven to work. Caps tend to enjoy ‘old-timey’ stuff, alluding to a classier time gone by.

It’s animal totem is the sea-goat, a creature who can swim to the deepest depths of the waters (emotional power, can cause Caps to get pulled down by depression) but who can also nimbly skip to the highest peaks of the mountains. They are wont to achieve, and will always move forward, even if it’s two steps forward, one step back. Though they usually plan ahead so well they don’t experience the setbacks other, less calculating signs might. Cap is the cardinal earth sign, an initiator and organizer of the highest order, they will take all the practical action needed to accomplish a goal. It’s my feeling that they are the most likely to actually complete a goal out of the cardinal signs, though others might set out to begin more. They also might take it to the extreme and be SUPER micro-managey.

Earth energy has to do with the body, real world sensations and experiences. So while these folks are usually very concerned with their appearance in the world (in association with the 10th house of public life), they usually know very much how to enjoy their senses in ways that other signs might be afraid to try. I’ve never met a Cap that wasn’t a secret freak in the sheets;)

So, anyway, whatever, the Capricorn New Moon! This is a time to start plans (cardinal) toward a practical (earth) goal that has to do with your public self or worldly standing (10th house). This is a time to evaluate your responsibilities. What is helping you climb the Capricorn mountain? What is dragging you down to the depths of the sea? This isn’t the time to worry about your immediate surroundings and comforts (Taurus), or your actual work and day to day activities (Virgo). This is the time to work toward your career and long-term ambitions. Don’t worry about fighting this battle, focus on winning the war. Plant seeds to this effect and over the next month, the power of the Leo full moon will help to give the personal power and confidence to take action. The placement of the new moon in your chart will tell you in what area of your life to focus this energy (and I can tell you in a reading, wink wink:)

Other major influences on this new moon include conjuncting the current Mercury Retrograde, which I touched on in a previous post. Everything I said about the new moon comes under more scrutiny because everything seems backward right now. Our thinking and communication is turned inward, it seems we’re having trouble getting our point across right now, maybe. Is what you think you want really what you want, or is it just what you want right now? Think about the future and what is going to get you to where you want to go, not just what you need right now. Right now is temporary, try to see past what might seem like insurmountable odds (thanks Saturn influence).

The new moon is also conjunct Pluto, which digs up old secrets and encourages transformation through letting go of old things. Release will be a big element of this moon phase. What is holding you back? You can’t reach out for new stuff if your cold, dead hands are clutching onto the past. Let go and let yourself become reborn through Pluto’s transformational power.

The new moon is also square to Uranus in Aries. This tension between our awareness and the “Awakener” in the sign of the self is pushing us forward. We won’t be content with things as they’ve been going, and we’ll break out of the mold. I know a bunch of folks who have changed jobs, or just quit because it wasn’t working for them right now. Go with it! Break out of what isn’t working for you. This will help us with Pluto’s call to change.

It isn’t all bad news right now, though. We’ve got a trine to Jupiter in Virgo going on, which will give ease and blessings if we stick to the ever-expanding details. Depending on who you ask, both God and the Devil are in the details, and right now it’ll be if you’re paying attention to them or not. Those pesky, mundane trifles should be our stepping stones to the future we seek, and right now those seemingly innocuous things are going to get us there. Nothing is too small to notice if we’re trying to take on the big picture.

Cheers,

Will

Mercury Rx in Cap Shadow Zone

Today we enter the shadow zone for the upcoming Mercury Retrograde in Capricorn. The shadow zone is the area that Mercury will back up over, so we will hit this area at about 15° Cap three times. What happens today will resonate again Jan 23 during the retrograde, and Jan 29 after Mercury stations direct.

This blurb is more to talk about the dates and general vibe, I’ll describe how the retrograde will affect each sign later. We enter the shadow today, right on top of Pluto. Mercury will hit 1° Aquarius on Jan 5, and the retrograde will last until Jan 24, again at 15° Cap conjuct Pluto. Mercury will exit the shadow zone at 2° Aquarius on Feb 16.

Mercury is the planet of intellect, communication and some say, media. It shows us how we think, use words and absorb information.

Capricorn key words are responsibility, tradition and durability. The Cap association with the 10th house puts a spotlight on public life, career and ambition.

My feeling is that this Mercury Rx will have us thinking about the responsibilities we’ve taken on. The Rx’s last year were all in air signs, so it was a lot of talking and dealing with relationships. This Rx, not so much. Well be thinking about foundations for our lives, what has longevity and what has played out its course. We’ll be thinking about work, and whether it’s working for us. Thoughts of how we play our part on the world stage, our image, will be brought to the front.

Another element in play is that Mercury will be passing over Pluto, just as it’s conjunct today. Pluto is the planet of deep transformation, phoenix from the ashes and all that. It’s destructive power wants us to tear things down so new things can bloom. It’s a sexy planet, so we might be feeling the natural urges, especially in the horny sign of Cap. Pluto is associated with Hades and Persephone, so power struggles might be present in the areas mentioned above. Mercury is quick and out in the open, Pluto is buried deep in the dark, molten earth. What Mercury unearths might be startling.

The Sun will pass over Mercury Rx on Jan 14 and 15, so we might get really aware of all the action going on these days. Things might be pulled to our attention that we hadn’t noticed before.

Expect changes this Mercury Rx. Going over Pluto 3x won’t let us escape without leaving something behind. Mercury will be pulling things up from under that we might rather have been left buried. I’m thinking a lot of skeletons will be popping up out of a lot of closets. Roll with it, fighting the transformation will make it harder.

Cheers,

Will

P.s. The houses where the Rx falls will influence your chart differently. Get a reading to find out how!

P.p.s. I use THE NEW AMERICAN EPHEMERIS for the 21ST CENTURY by Rique Pottenger, based on the earlier work of Neil F. Michaelson for my astrodates.

P.p.p.s. I totally googled the image above, and it was Pinned by Isabel Summers onto Spiritual Astrology on Pinteret. Thanks Isabel!
