Welcome to one of the few times this year I’ve posted before the event happens! Hopefully this good planning energy will carry thru to next year:)
Cheers, Merry Xmas and all that Jazz,
The past few months have been crazy busy! But I couldn’t think of a better way to jump back to astro blog life than today’s New Moon and Solar Eclipse at 20° Cancer (especially since I’m actually at home and this is all up in my 4th house)!
Here’s the chart, set for time here in Utah, as it is right now:
Sun and Moon at high noon, conjunct within 5°! They will be low on the horizon or set by the time the New Moon is exact, at 8.48 PM MST. So we won’t see this eclipse like the one last year on August 21, and it’s not a total eclipse, but it’ll be giving us some partial Solar Eclipse Vibes-only in Cancer instead of Leo.
So! The New Noon is when the moon is in the earth’s shadow and appears dark in the sky. At this time the sun and moon are said to be in the same place, now in the sign of Cancer. This union of the sun and moon gives a new energy impulse through the next lunar cycle. New Moons are a good time to rest and recharge the batteries, and to symbolically (in this instance, also literally) plant seeds for the month ahead. Because the moon (shorthand: emotions/internal) is not reflecting the light of the sun (shorthand: consciousness/external), what lies in our shadows has more freedom to roam. I think of this like plants needing the nighttime to complete the photosynthesis/nitrate cycle (or whatever, ask a botanist) as much as the sun-we need the darkness as much as the light in our own processes as well. It’s all a part of a cycle, and what we carry into the new moon plants seeds for us to harvest over the next month.
Anyway, the Moon friggin’ loves being in Cancer. It is considered the ruler of the sign, and its natives are intrinsically, intuitively connected to its waxing and waning. Moon and Cancer are Mother, emotion, intuition, origins, and like their totem Crab with their house on their back, home and family life. Cancer is the first water sign which is the emotional element. They feel deeply, and because they are the second Cardinal sign (outgoing, initiative energy-Aries is the first), their emotions seem to burst out of them when they are excited. Not naming names, but some folks I know have trouble controlling the volume of their voice when they are riding that wave.
Cancer is related to the 4th Astrological House, which I refer to as the seat of the soul (I probably didn’t make that up). If we wear three masks – one for the world, one for our close circle of people, and one only for ourselves – then the 4th House is the mask we wear only for ourselves. It’s our squishiest, juiciest crab meat under that crusty shell.
And! Not only is it the New Moon, but that partial Solar Eclipse too! A Solar Eclipse signifies a change that is brought about by some ‘crisis’ in the sign and house where it falls. For instance, this one falls in my actual 4th House, so we are getting into doing some house renovations. Not a ‘crisis’ but definitely an exquisite pressure to get it done. Wherever the Eclipse falls in your chart, you can expect a transformation during the coming months. Good times!
Some big players in this New Moon chart are the Water and Earth Major Grand Trines aka the big blue triangles! New Moon Cancer trine Jupiter Scorpio trine Neptune Pisces is going to BLOW UP our emotional receptivity over not only this next moon cycle, but for thru this Eclipse energy over the next few months as well. The force of our emotions will have an extraordinary way of manifesting in the real world-we will be making our landscape match its emotional counterpart. And all of that will be accentuated by Uranus in Taurus trine Venus in Virgo trine Saturn in Capricorn-making up the Grand Earth Trine. This energy gives a revitalization to our real-life efforts, helps us take the necessary steps to complete our goals. My hope is that we feel what is going on out there in the world, and act now to bring out that Divine Mother that everyone needs. These Grand Trines are only effective if we use their harmonious flow to effect real change out there.
The only red flag I’m really seeing here is the T-square between Mercury Leo square Jupiter Scorpio square Mars Retrograde in Aquarius. This aspect shows that changes in our relationships are likely to result in ego conflicts and posturing. We might feel feisty all up in our Cancer emotions and express ourselves like a royal Leo pain, causing waves in our Aquarian groups. Sometimes we need to rock the boat, but sometimes we need to go with the flow. We might feel some tension about which one is the correct choice.
In my procrastinating online, and in conclusion, I found this post from @QueerCosmos on Facebook and I think it is all up in my feelings, so here ya ho:
Happy New Year!
This year is off to a great start, with a Full Cancer Moon on New Year’s Day. The moon is the ruler of the sign of Cancer, so a full moon in the sign means that the subconscious becomes conscious. Cancer is what is personal, our gooey feelings we keep under our crabby shell. Well, on New Year’s it was all that dark stuff we keep private on full display. We were aware of our feelings and expressed them openly.
Big changes since my last post on the holiday Mercury retrograde, including biggie-and-sometimes-baddie Saturn creeping up into Capricorn right at the end of last month. So for this new moon coming up on January 16, almost all of the personal planets will be in Cap! Check it out: Saturn at 3°, Mercury at 6°, Pluto at 19°, Sun and Moon (New Moon) both at 26°, led closely by Venus at 27°. That’s a lot of Capricorn!
Quick recap, the new moon is the time when the moon appears dark in the sky. The sun and moon are considered to be at the same point in the zodiac. The new moon is when the seeds of the next month are planted, a time to reserve energy and rest and gather yourself for the time ahead. This is the end of the previous lunar cycle and the time leading to the next one, the transformation between the two somewhere in the dark of the moon.
The sign of Capricorn is earth, having to do with health and practical concerns. It’s Carnidal, meaning that it has an initiative quality, an outward-kind of direction as a general attitude. It is the 10th sign of the zodiac, and its association with the 10th house of public life means that what happens in the sign generally happens to all of us. Its ruling planet is Saturn (like Cronus, Father Time) which has to do with longevity, trials and the lessons they teach, and the sometimes harsh consequences of not learning the lessons. Capricorn is about reputation and legacy, what we have created in our time on this earth and what we leave behind for our next generation.
So nbd, right? This new moon, since I’ve become aware of its cycles, has always been a time of reflection and making plans. Last year’s happened at the end of 2016, and I spent it writing lists with a lot of life-changing things going on in the lives of those around me. The year before I spent it with a list of challenges of my own that were very difficult to face. The year before I was deciding on where to live. This year I find the New Capricorn Moon landing the consequences of my recent career changes, and here I am again, making lists, making plans, making moves, trying to keep the making continue.
A wise Capricorn that I know (and I think I reference this constantly now, but), he told me that a big part of the energy of Capricorn is moving through fear. So I think that because we’re coming out of the previous 2-1/2 year cycle of Saturn in fiery, idealistic, ever-expansive Sagittarius, Capricorn feels restrictive. Because that’s Saturn’s function, is to reign it in when we’ve gone overboard. Sag pushes the boundary, Capricorn comes in and redefines it. Like all fire-to-earth transitions, it’s like putting the clay into the kiln: what we have conceived will now take form. That can be scary, but part of the journey through Capricorn is owning that, collectively.
So if you’ll notice in that nifty chart I done drew, there are a ton of planets all up in Capricorn, but all those highlighter lines are pointing to the north node in Leo at 14°rx. Everything is moving counter-clockwise on that chart, so once those planets shift over into like 15° Aquarius in the next month, all this energy that’s building up will be unleashed.
That’s right! All that slugglishness that’s been going on since last Friday will kind of peak this weekend as Mercury and Saturn meet. But it’s actually building up to this new moon, which should help us get recharged for a crazy month. By the end of next week, Venus will break into Aquarius and give us a breath of fresh air. With all this energy moving into Aquarius and crossing the South Node, we will feel like a million things are going on at once. GET READY NOW. That’s what the energy about three days before and after the new moon on the 16th is about.
The other thing I’m seeing with this new moon is that it is conjunct Pluto and Venus. This means that there are probably some things simmering with others under the surface, but if you try to keep a win/win attitude you should all be able to come to a working agreement. Also, Jupiter in Scorpio this year is making us aware of long-term changes. Being charged up with Mars, and sextile all this Capricorn action (green lines above), means that we are aware and empowered to make changes as these small frictions may arise.
When talking about Saturn and Capricorn, it can be easy to talk about how tough they are. But they play hard when they feel like their hard work has been accomplished. If you have been killing it, take the new moon energy to step out and enjoy yourself by letting loose. If you have been slacking, get ready for that Saturn boot up your ass. Either way, you’ll probably end up making lists and organizing something. There’s literally too much to be done, and we’ll be aware of it.
P.S. Used my good ole ephemeris.
Stay tuned for a big update-probably with VIDEOS lol-of the major astrologies of 2018:)
Happy Leo Season!
The Sun entered Leo this morning at 8.15am MST. The new moon in Leo is hot on its heels, taking place at 0 degrees tomorrow morning at 2.46am MST. With Mars in Leo two days ago and the north node camping out since May, we are starting to feel fired up!
Here’s a chart of this morning:
The moon in the last decan (10 degree chunk) of Cancer is closing in on the sun, and their conjunction is the New Moon. New moons are a time when the light of consciousness (Sun) has not yet shone on the subconscious mind (Moon). It’s the time to retreat, recover, and in a sense, step into the ‘darkness.’ What are our internal, reactive drives? How do we want to channel that energy over the development of the next moon cycle? Because we are more raw and primal, less conscious, this is a time to assess and listen to what comes up from within us. This is a time to plant seeds, while the full moon is the time to harvest the crop. At the full moon we will have more power to complete the intentions that we tune into and nurture now.
In the sign of Leo, this new moon is all about listening to your heart, which Leo rules. Creativity, passion, and amusements are all Leo keywords. Leo is kingly or personal power, as opposed to the people power of opposite sign Aquarius. That means that this new moon is about what ignites your heart, what lights you up personally. The fixed-fire sign, Leo is a magnetic concentration of what makes you happy. Where this new moon lands in your chart will tell you where to direct your interests and where you need to have fun and do what you want.
Under the Leo New Moon two years ago, I started this blog! I had an interest in astrology, and followed my heart. Since then, what had been my hobby has become a passion as well as a profession! It led me to the amazing team at The Golden Braid Bookstore in Salt Lake, where I’ve been doing astrology and tarot readings for over a year now. I planted a seed two years ago that has grown more than I ever could have anticipated.
This time is about getting in touch with yourself and the state of your happiness. Are you doing the things that fulfill your creative needs? What are you creating? Stay in touch with what comes up now, because your whims and passing fancies might be inviting you to play. Play is a vital part of human development, and it falls in the Leonine 5th House. When we play, we solve problems more easily. When we play, we open ourselves to the creative process.
Some interesting features of the chart above is the Grand Fire Trine between Aries Uranus, Mercury/North Node Leo, and Saturn Sagittarius. Grand Fire Trines are characterized by the ability under their influence to manifest spiritual drives into reality. What are those fiery passions that make your heart burn? These few weeks are a unique time where we have the vision and energy to complete those goals. Uranus gives energy and an independent, rebellious quality; we will not want to conform to anyone. Mercury conjunct the North Node makes this an important time to lay long-term plans; we will want to use communication to find the path to our happiness and creative fulfillment. Saturn gives us the gift and challenge of grounding our ideals; are our ideas sound, do we have a good philosophy behind our spiritual intention? We have energy and grounding right now, don’t let this possibly downright enjoyable time slip by without utilizing its power to employ positive changes.
Another element I find intriguing is the T-square of Gemini Venus, Sagittarius Saturn, and Pisces Neptune. The opposition of Venus and Saturn is a softening influence, there is a lot of attention on communication and how we speak the truth. Integrity is of paramount importance right now, it will be better to speak a harsher truth in favor of a smoother equivocation. Neptune’s influence attempts to dissolve borders, to sweep things back to the sea. Boundaries are important right now. We can connect to spirit more now by being honest about the demands of the mundane.
Thank you so much for reading, and for all the support I’ve received over the last two years! This new moon has me plotting and planning over the future, and I’m working on bringing lots more original content. Check me out on Facebook and my lil’ baby YouTube channel, and also check out our awesome Golden Braid team. If you like what you see, please don’t hesitate to share with your people:)
P.S. Used my Astro.com account for the chart, and painted the Buddha Board at The Golden Braid for the graphic.
So the new moon was just a little while ago at 12.44pm MST, and for us in SLC it was directly on the Midheaven or directly overhead (giving public/10th House importance to the moon energy).
New moon is the time to rest and recharge, to plant seeds and make plans. In the air sign of Gemini, the focus is on communication. We have to think about new ways of expressing ideas. Words used unconsciously during this time will become a stumbling block later on, but since the moon is in its dark phase and not yet illuminated by the light of Sun-consciousness, we might do it impulsively. However, words used with clear intent now can be a bulldozer to clear that block as you go.
The ruler of New Moon Gemini is Mercury, which will be in the sign of Taurus thru June 6. This earth sign is all about creation. It’s about value, how we perceive it in relation to ourselves and our own possessions. Taurus is measured and methodical, and can seem almost languid compared to other, more high energy signs. Nevertheless, they always Tortoise and the Hare everybody by winning it with their steady approach. These qualities will be how communication flows during this moon cycle. Sometimes agonizingly slow and stubborn, but always focused on what is growing and the potential for new life.
We might also be gathering a lot of idea maps now, with all the ideas swirling around, he said, switching metaphors abruptly. The next full moon is in Sagittarius and is all about following your own path to Truth. Now would be the time to talk it out, make sure you really believe what you think you’re saying. You might have to back up your ideas later.
Some interesting things about this new moon is first, that it’s square to Neptune in Pisces. I think during this moon cycle, we will be wont to seek a definition rather than let a thing remain implied. Words will be necessary, even when it feels like trying to hold water in your hands. We won’t feel comfortable with blurring edges, we’ll tend to crave boundaries.
Second, there are two relatively short-lived yet major oppositions happening, sparked off by the new moon vibezzz. The first of which is on the Venus-Aries/Jupiter-Libra axis, which has been getting a lot of attention this year. Aries is the Self-so Venus there is getting us to really love our own dayum self and to go get ours, while Libra is the Other-so Jupiter there is expanding our awareness of our relationships. This opposition can be tough EVEN IF it’s both of the generally ‘benefic’ planets, showering blessings. Are we letting other people’s needs outweigh our own? Are we selfishly indulging our own interests and not considering the needs of others at all? This opposition during New Moon Gemini creates an awareness of these themes through crisis, or a situation that seems to pull you in different directions.
The other opposition is that of the malefic’ planets of Mars-Gemini and Saturn-Sagittarius. Mars is drive in the realm of communication (it’s very likely, and for me definitely true that our mouths have been RUNNING OFF). Other people are necessary for true communication to happen, yet Saturn’s over there grounding our asses in the sign of higher learning and personal truth. There’s a pull between speaking your truth and following your truth. Maybe you need to say some things on your path to Truth but you find it hard. Time to spit ’em out, because by the time the full moon happens you might not have as many options about it.
Lots of interesting stuff always happening in the sky. The long-standing T-square has eased off, so that a bit of a relief.
Thanks for reading! If you’d like to hear more about a particular topic, please use New Moon Gemini to lmk, ok?
The new moon lands at 8 degrees Aquarius tonight at 5.07pm MST. The new moon is the conjunction of the Sun and Moon, meaning they are both at the same point. The moon is in the Earth’s shadow and is dark for a few days. This symbolizes that the emotional/subconscious nature is in shadow, not yet illuminated by the conscious light of the Sun. It means we have a more primal energy, a more raw state that gives birth to a new energy, culminating with the full moon in Leo on February 10.
Aquarius is all about connection to the collective. How we maintain individuality and yet identify with groups of people. If it’s opposite sign of Leo is all about personal power and creativity, Aquarius is about people power and dreaming. Leo is ruled by our close-up star, the Sun. Aquarius is the far-off star, associated with clairvoyancy and vision. Traditionally ruled by Saturn, in modern astrology ruled by Uranus, Aquarius breaks the mold. It’s like the concept of genetic variance. If a gene pool is too shallow, it’s not good for the population. Aquarius comes in and gives us the alterations we need to keep the line moving into the future. The farsight of the Aquarian nature is ahead of its time. They have their finger on the future pulse, with their far-out knowledge directly sourced from somewhere else in the universe. Aliens, maybe? Who knows.
This moon cycle will have us thinking about how we fit into the collective. Over the next couple of days, it’s better to lay low and make plans to be carried out around the full moon. Are we contributing to what’s going on around us, or are we separate from it? Are we fulfilled in the roles we have in group settings? Are we happy with the identity we’ve cultivated within those roles? The seeds are being planted now.
A couple of things going on in the sky right now that activate this energy in different ways. First, the T-square of Uranus in Aries square Pluto/Mercury in Capricorn square Jupiter in Libra is still going strong. Election fallout, maybe? We are still actively engaged in transforming the public world we live in, and as these planets are generally very slow moving, we’ll be figuring it out for awhile. We are expanding relationships while totally rebelling against the self-image that has been brought into focus recently. Surprisingly, Saturn’s placement in Sagittarius right now is offering relief to this T-square. This means that having a solid, grounded understanding of the philosophies that rule your life can provide relief to the attention/stress caused by the T-square. After the last couple months, Saturn and it’s sextile to Jupiter in Libra is encouraging us to remain calm in the storm, reminding that Saturn lessons are hard but ultimately here for our growth.
Luckily! Mercury exits the shadow zone of the Retrograde in Capricorn today (think I listed it as leaving on the 29th, but that’s wrong). There’s been a LOT of Big-Picture Life Planning going on, everyone has had an intense drive to figure out long term goals over the last month. Well, starting today we get to move forward on a lot of the issues we’ve been dealing with, breaking into new territory after what seems like months of rigamarole. Mercury will be passing over Pluto again in a few days, and we’ll have more chances to transform and meet our struggles with power through communication. The difference now is that we will be able to move on rather than be stuck in a quagmire. Go get em!
In the next week or so, both Venus and Mars will be moving from the sign of Pisces to the sign of Aries. This indicates to me that we’ve been in a bit of a dream state, feeling unusually immersed in our subconscious/dreamstate. When they are both fired up in Aries, I expect we’ll feel more into ourselves. It will definitely increase aggression, in terms of objectives, knowing what you want and how to get it. These planets in Aries could also have us feeling more ‘selfish.’ Which is fine, unless you forget the interests of others while you’re getting yours. And when I say get yours, I mean get ready for some sensual times. I’ll write more about both of these events, including the upcoming Venus Retrograde. So! We’ve been all up in our dreamy selves, serving others, connecting to the universe. Now we’ll be connecting with our own damn selves.
Use the energy of this moon cycle to recharge your group energy. Friends, contacts, networks are all of tantamount importance at this time. Many times, we define ourselves through our interactions with others. This Aquarius energy emphasizes that. No man is an island, and we’ll be very aware of that now. Aquarius is also the sign of hopes and dreams, so now is the time to plant as many seeds as possible. How are you fertilizing these seeds? How are you cultivating each step toward your goals? Are you taking action every day to reach that far-off star? Any actions in that direction will take you far.
P.S. Used my ephemeris for the dates, the Buddha Board at Golden Braid Books to draw the image, and probably excerpts of SEXTROLOGY by Starsky and Cox.
Scorpio season sent me underground:) AND I started writing this over a week ago, but here I am, the day after again. What are you gonna do? But now it’s time to come back into the light. So! Here’s my thoughts on the yesterday’s New Moon in Sagittarius.
New moons are when the moon is dark. The Sun and Moon meet at the same point, and then the moon grows and shines full, then wanes and dies again. When they are at the same point, the conjunction gives birth to a new moon cycle. So they say that New Moon is a time to lie low, to be receptive to the energies that are passing through. It’s a time for planning, gestating, recharging the batteries and channeling your intentions for the month ahead.
Because the moon is in the umbra of the Earth’s shadow, it doesn’t reflect the sun’s light. The metaphor here is that the light of consciousness, represented by the sun, is not shining in the subconscious, intuitive, emotional areas ruled by the moon. Basically, we aren’t aware of our impulses and things tend to come up from inside without our conscious control. Our more primal nature has more sway at these times.
The term ‘shadow’ has a lot of meanings, but new moons are a perfect time to embrace the different connotations. It’s my feeling that it’s as important to stand in your shadow as it is to stand in your light. Because everything exists on a spectrum of opposites, light and dark could not exist without each other. They each have their purpose and their time. New Moons are a time for the dark corners of your subconscious to thrive. It’s important to let your mind, your heart, your chakras, however you want to frame the conversation, that those energies have time to rest and be free beyond the confines of what we think we know and can control.
The New Moon in Sagittarius takes place at 5:19 am MST on November 29. This moon cycle is all about coming out from the subterranean depths of Scorpio and into the fiery light. We experience deep truths under Scorpio influence, hidden mysteries. The skeletons in the closet get dug up. And in Sagittarius, that new knowledge is fuel toward seeking truth. Sagittarius is linked to the 9th House of the chart and keywords are philosophy, transcendence, higher learning, foreign countries. Sag energy pushes us to expand (like its ruler, Jupiter) our awareness and to follow our own path, regardless of what we learned in our youth (represented by the opposite sign of Gemini/3rd House). This moon cycle is giving birth to a new way of seeing the world outside of our own experience. A different impulse is going to arise from the new moon in regards to how we are collectively, and personally, relating to issues of beliefs, ideals and learning. We will be having a fresh take on what is truly working for our most good.
Part of what’s taken me so long to write this is describing the influence of the two T-squares going on, activated during this whole moon cycle. The first is the new moon as well as Saturn square the north node in Virgo AND Neptune in Pisces (one set of red triangles in my drawing). This describes a period of time where we are feeling very much pulled between our spiritual nature and connection to all of creation against knowing that this time is all in the mundane, real details that, strung together, make up a life. Our test now is our awareness of the balance of these things, and the trials the arise in trying to keep that balance. We are being tested now by Saturn to ensure that our dreams and our realities are in balance. This moon cycle is a checkpoint to make sure our philosophies are in accordance with this tension. Everything exists on a spectrum of opposites, and this time will help us determine at which point we need to be, if we are open to its influence. It can be very trying.
The other T-square is the opposition of Uranus in Aries to Jupiter in Libra, both square Pluto conjunct Venus in Capricorn. This describes a time when who we are publicly is transforming, and attention is called to the revolutions going on in the self, and the growth and expansion of relationships. Jupiter in Libra is mixing up our social interactions; we seem to be meeting a lot of new people and finding new layers in existing relationships. If anything has been out of balance with our personal relationships, we’ve been noticing an evening out. People seem to be wanting to help us, or conversely, people seem to need more from us more than usual. This is now a tug-of-war with how we are envisioning ourselves. We’re seeing new possibilities within ourselves, and balancing that out with others seems to be more of a balancing act than before. These drives are encouraging us to become something different and deeper on the stage of the world at large. As it’s a T-square, this doesn’t feel great. The thing this new moon has going on is Venus joined forces with Pluto. That indicates these transformations we’re going through are softened by love. We’ll feel that the changes are for our benefit. They might even be for our profit, as both planets are tied to money.
Some beneficial influences activated by this new moon cycle are include the trine (blue lines) between Saturn/Mercury in Sag and Uranus in Aries, which indicates that we’ll have an easier time learning our lessons personally. The individual things we have to learn will have a free flow of energy, and like the earlier comment, we’ll have a feeling that our hard lessons to learn will help us find the vision we have for ourselves. The other is the trine between Mars in Aquarius and Jupiter in Libra. This is most excellent for group relations. We’ll feel like we’re getting things done when we’re getting them done together. And intriguingly, the things we get done well help fuel the transformations we’re a bit uncomfortable addressing in those T-squares.
I’m going to finish now before I wait another week to do it. One-on-ones seem to be a struggle, but thank goodness for the whole crew:) Thanks for reading, and sending you all the good vibes! Follow your own voice, stand in your own truth.
P.S. I only used my same ephemeris to prep this, and the drawing I did is from that.
Thanks so much for joining me on this journey over the past year since I started doing readings:) So happy to be at the Golden Braid in SLC, can’t wait to see what happens next!
EDITS: It’s not Venus and Mars conjunct, it’s Venus and MERCURY. So scrap what I said, this time will be sensual rather than overtly sexual. We will want to communicate in a detailed way the beautiful things we are attracting in terms of creativity and recreation. Then with the trine to Uranus in Aries, that energy is electrified and we’re able to tap into innovation, the future almost reaches out through creative endeavors. We will want to gracefully speak on the insights and inspirations we are having.
Venus and Mercury are actually square Mars, but as Mars moves out of Scorpio, I think the conversation with Uranus will help us through any tensions that might arise. We might feel some friction, but we’ll have another kind of understanding that will lead the way.
Something I also forgot to mention is that there are no air signs activated, like the last full moon. Air energy is mental and intellectual and has everything to do with communication. Keeping the windows open to let some fresh air in will be needed. Like, it’s great to have other perspectives, but I think that the kinds of fires being lit and fueled right now go beyond words. This lunation, for me, is about experiencing rather than analyzing, doing rather than planning, feeling rather than thinking. There are things that are intuitive, and this time is very personal. Trust your inner voice and follow your creative spark. Talk less, do more.
Again, thank you profusely for your support! Like my page on FB, subscribe to my YouTube channel, and check us out at goldenbraidbooks.com!
Setting forward an intention as I go into my second year, I’m thinking about the end of Jupiter in Virgo transit: working on the details and generating more content, more consistently. Stay tuned for planetary transit updates, natal chart position breakdowns, and the continuation of the houses and moon cycle discussions. If there’s anything in particular you’d be interested in hearing about, let me know in the comments or on FB. Excited to move forward!
The new moon is on the 4th of July (Independence Day or Excessive Fireworks Party in the US:) at 4.03am MST. This is a powerful new moon because the Moon will be joining the Sun at 12° her home sign of Cancer. This is the sign of the Mother, the feminine source of life from which all life springs and is nurtured. Its element is water, and is the second cardinal sign. This marks a new quadrant in the zodiac, where the soul begins and we start feeling things deeply (the first three signs deal with the physical realm, the next three emotional, the next three mental, and the last three spiritual). Cancer is the seat of the soul as it were.
The Cardinal quality of the sign gives Cancer the ability to initiate energy and activity by the force of their emotions. Its connection to the moon makes this energy ebb and flow like the tides. The tidal flow as well as the currents of the river to the sea are the most apt analogies for Cancer energy. Cancer women, especially, are cosmically tied to this energy and indeed, their emotional tides are the water and waves. The men aren’t the waves in the literal sense the women are, they are riding the waves. It’s important for Cancer people to learn their flows, and in time they will be able to harness these changes. As young people, the emotions they so strongly feel can be overwhelming. When they are excited, they have a hard time CONTROLLING THE VOLUME OF THEIR VOICE. They have infectious moods and can feel other people like reading a book.
Cancer rules over the breasts (Mother, remember?) as well as the stomach. Many Cancerians have deep feelings and intuitions, and I always trust the gut reaction of those folks in my life. Its animal totem is the side-stepping Crab, and like their symbol, these folks can be very indirect in their approach. Also like the Crab, they can cling with tenacity to those things they love, like none of the rest of us can understand love. Security is a keyword with Cancer, in the sometimes harsh tides of life they seek to find a safe place where they won’t be tossed around by the waves. They carry their home on their backs (can be HUGE hoarders…like, I love y’all but COME ON), and can withdraw if they feel at all threatened (they often do, and can be fantastic hermits). The motto of the sign is “I FEEL,” and no one can do that like them. Their physical health is directly tied to their emotional health, if they feel depressed or frazzled they can and generally will quickly become sickly. They seek to nurture because they can understand, they seek nurturing from the churning tides.
So! The new moon is the time to lay low, rest and restore, make plans to be enacted as the moon waxes. This time is when the emotional place has no light from the sun, we are at our most raw and primal. Our emotional energies are subconscious, under the surface in the world below. The Moon here in her own sign feels at home, our emotional impulses will be strong, almost overwhelmingly so. Depending on your chart, this could trigger dreams or psychic impressions. I think it’s a good idea to realize the emotions that will be flowing are doing as they’re meant to, we might not understand our own motivations and deeply felt reactions consciously til later. Trust your feelings as the moon is dark, this is your subconscious speaking to you in a much stronger way than at other new moons. People might be dramatic af, to be perfectly honest, but everyone is going to be vibing hard on these flowing feelings. An important element of this new moon is the retreat thing: go recharge your batteries, get all up in your feelings and let the tide wash over you.
Goals and meditations during this time are connected to emotions, your past, your parents-especially your mom, your home, and your own private emotions. Cancer’s ties to the 4th house make everything very deeply felt and personal. People might not get all up in your shell, and you might not wanna come outta there. That’s OK. Because this, like my hilarious Cancer friend jokes in v public situations, “IS PRIVATE.” There will also be a juicy trine to Neptune in Pisces, the emotions will run deep and we’ll be primed to tune in to the Universal Frequency. More dreams and vibey psychic flows.
This new moon cycle is about the emotional drives, the search for security. By the time we get to the full moon, we’ll have to take concrete Capricorn action with all these touchy-feely vibes going on now. Soak up all the impressions and even the smallest feelings you experience now, they’ll help you in practical ways in a few weeks. It takes place in the 2nd decan, so it’s infused with Scorpio energy; according to Devore, the new moon will be nuanced by: “revelation, resourcefulness, energy; powerful emotions; the struggle with sex.”
Interesting features of this new moon! First of all, the Sun and Moon, Venus, and Mercury will ALL be opposition Pluto over there in Cap. There is a need to balance all these crazy feelings with the transformations we are all experiencing collectively. There might be power struggles if Pluto is pulling too hard, I’m thinking this might be work-related? Basically the pull from the security we’re v much aware of vs. our public obligations and transitions. We’re gonna be all up in our feelings, there might be friction.
The other balancing act I’ve mentioned in previous posts. It’s the opposition of Jupiter in Virgo and Neptune in Pisces. This is the dissolving of the subconscious into the Universe vs. the expanding day-to-day details we taking care of all the time. The pull between the soul-mind and the earth body. This opposition creates, with the Cancer/Capricorn opposition, what is called a Mystic Rectangle. That means that these two oppositions aren’t as tense or abrasive as say, the grand cross we just went through. It’s tighter angles, creating trines and sextiles that make the energy easier to deal with. There are flows easing the tensions, and helping to keep each extreme balanced. People with this aspect in their birth chart often have unusual gifts, insights, or viewpoints. So there’s a lot of craziness, but there’s also a lot helping us out during this new moon.
Trust your gut feelings and allow yourself to recharge and replenish during this time. Doing things will happen later, and you’ll have more insight if you’re rested and ready. Make a blanket fort and cry it out, alright? 😉
