Mercury Retrograde in Aquarius/Capricorn 1/14-2/3/22

My dearest AstroHoes (I’m playing with the name ok),

It is my deepest regret to inform you that the dreaded time has returned, as it often does. Yup, it’s ’bout to be Mercury Retrograde again. And you thought last spring’s one in Gemini and last fall’s one in Libra (yikes!) were crazy?? Well get into the rounding out of the air signs as we move backward from Aquarius into Capricorn during the next couple of weeks!

Here’s a quick breakdown of the dates:

  • Mercury enters retrograde shadow zone at 24 Cap on 12/29/21 – PHASE I
  • Mercury stations retrograde at 10 Aqu on 1/14/22 (4.41am MST) – PHASE II
  • Mercury retrogrades into Cap on 1/25/22 (8.05pm MST)
  • Mercury stations direct at 24 Cap on 2/3/22 (9.13pm MST) – PHASE III
  • Mercury enters Aqu again on 2/14/22 (2.54pm MST)
  • Mercury exits shadow zone at 10 Aqu on 2/24/22

So real quick again, a retrograde is a time where the earth’s orbit gets inside of another planet’s orbit and it appears to move backward through the night sky. It happens about three or four times a year with Mercury because it’s moving faster inside its closer orbit.

The common advice during Mercury Retrograde is that communication will come to a halt, not to sign contracts, etc. Because it’s the planet of intellect and expression, it broadly points to a time where you will be changing your mind and coming to different conclusions. Signals and wires are said to be crossed during this time, so being careful to cross your t’s and dot your i’s is paramount.

In the sign of Aquarius, Mercury is in top form, and it needs to be because it affects everyone. Aquarius is group dynamics, not only where you belong and identify, but as an individual what you bring to the table. People might be feeling out of sorts when it comes to group dynamics, feeling like they don’t belong. The thing is though, this time is to specifically reevaluate whether or not you feel like you want to be sitting at the table to begin with. Not just do they want me, but do I really want them? -type vibes. Are the people I’m surrounding myself with supporting my goals and dreams? Visions of the future are Aquarius af, who’s with you in your vision?

Then as Mercury backs up into Capricorn, the mood changes from hopes and dreams and friends and whatnot to a what am I doing with my life? -type vibe. It gets a lot more practical. Not just the yearning for formless dreams, but the planning on how to specifically achieve them. We’re also moving from an air north node to an earth north node during this time, which will be a little preview of the year ahead. Brainstorming time is coming to a close, as Mercury digs up old business in Cap, it’s go time.

The Retrograde over the Conjunction and America’s Pluto Return are some pretty big omens for the year ahead and thru 2024. The Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn represents the ability of the masses to bring future vision into the physical realm, which is now Aquarius – or people power – in a way it’s never been before. This is making some prematurely say it’s the Age of Aquarius, but it’s not yet. We’re literally waking up to what it’s gonna take, and in true Aquarius fashion, it’s gonna take all of us. We’re all going to have to start doing things differently. Something I’m thinking of right before I post this is how they’re gonna try to keep fuckin selling us normal lol, getting back to something. Stop doing normal, stop trying to go back. Do different, do now. This time will bring this to awareness.

Venus Retrograde ALSO in Capricorn is coming to a close at the end of the month, and just a few days after, Mercury will go direct. My prediction is this little bubble of breathing room during the last couple weeks during the holiday season are coming to a close and shit’s about to speed up real quick.

Also Mercury Retrograde happening over the Great Conjunction and America’s Pluto Return is going to facilitate some crazy happenings in the US. The Republican tax reform of a couple years ago is solidifying more and more, and as we head into tax season I think people are going to be pissed. There are also some huge Supreme Court rulings coming out over the next couple weeks, I’m not expecting to be pleased about it? Lol

Check out this video for more juice lol:

Cheers,

Will

Venus Retrograde in Capricorn 12/19/21-1/29/22

Yo yo yo,

Here’s the shorthand dates for Venus Retrograde In Capricorn:

  • 11/18 – Enter Shadow Zone at 11° Capricorn
  • 12/19 – Station Retrograde at 26° Capricorn, 3.36am MST
  • 1/29 – Station Direct at 11° Capricorn, 1.46am MST
  • 3/2 – Exit Shadow Zone at 26° Capricorn

The glyph of Venus (♀️) shows the needs of the soul or sphere elevated above material needs or the cross. When a retrograde occurs, material or environmental needs are put above soul impulses. Venus retrograde in the sign of Capricorn invites us to evaluate our big picture. What is the overall plan, has it changed? Is our heart still in the same place? Changes to jobs, residence, and life paths will be on the forefront of everyone’s minds. Who am I now to the world? What does the world need from me, and am I willing to oblige? Reputations will be guarded with tooth and nail, ambitions abandoned. Like Mercury Retrograde in Libra this last fall, this transit will be a rough one. Lots of focus on structure, less so on nurturing.

Also with the holidays and supply chain, I’m predicting more strikes and shortages. Get ready now for a harsh winter. Capricorn is traditional and conservative, hard work is the emphasis.

Will

Hey there,

Here’s a video in which I rant about quarantine, reopening, and ennui. Please to enjoy:

P.S. used my ephemeris for the dates and buddha board with insta filters for this immaculate aesthetic.

P.P.S. i didn’t really emphasize this but please stay home and consider others. Every Venus Retrograde I think about the adage that it’s better to regard the kind of love you have to offer than the love you’d like to receive. We can figure out a better way to do things that help everyone out and address the issues of our time simultaneously. The quality of this time can catch wind like that.

New Moon in Sagittarius 12/7

Hi y’all,

Welcome to one of the few times this year I’ve posted before the event happens! Hopefully this good planning energy will carry thru to next year:)

Cheers, Merry Xmas and all that Jazz,

Will

November ’18 was a Big Deal – OR – let’s get the hell outta Retrograde for the Holidays!

Hey y’all,

We are getting close to the end of Mercury Retrograde again, as Mercury stations direct at 27° Scorpio. The last time I blogged was the last Mercury Retro this summer, so I thought it was appropriate. In October and the first bit of November we were rocked by the less frequent Venus Retrograde, and this is what I thought about that. I would add that the advice I was giving to people in readings during Venus retrograde and its long transit through Scorpio this year was to focus on the kind of love one has to offer rather than the type of love one would like to receive. Here’s the video about Venus Retro (with a link to Uranus shifting into Taurus earlier this year):

And then right after Venus Retrograde ended, Mercury Retrograde started! We are on the tail end of the retrograde phase now, and will exit the shadow zone and move into new territory around Dec. 25. Here’s about Mercury Retrograde:

Another big year-plus transit that happened last month is the planet Jupiter moving into its domicile of Sagittarius through next December. Here is that video (with links to Jupiter in Scorpio and Jupiter in Libra from the last couple years for reference as well) :

And the biggie through the next little while is the lunar node shifting into Cancer! Take a listen to this video and let me know what you think (with both of the links that I made for North Node in Leo as reference):

See what I’m saying?? People were making jokes that 2018 took years but November only took about 20 minutes. It’s because there was a ton of stuff going on!

If you want to see how these changes are landing in your personal chart, schedule an appointment in person or by phone by calling Golden Braid Books at (801) 322-1162 and talking with the dopest staff in the world.

Sending you all the good mojo as we wrap up 2018 and get out of these retrogrades and into next year full tilt!

Cheers,

Will

Venus in Aries, Retrograde to Pisces thru 4/15

Quick overview/Dates:

  • March 4-Venus stations Retrograde at 13 degrees of Aries, 2.09am MST
  • April 2-Venus re-enters the sign of Pisces, 5.25pm MST
  • April 15-Venus stations direct at 26 degrees of Pisces, 3.18am MST
  • April 28-Venus re-enters Aries, 6.13am MST
  • May 20-Venus exits retrograde shadow zone at 14 degrees Aries

Hi y’all,

Venus went retrograde earlier this week in the sign of Aries. Venus is the ruler of love and and attraction and affection, aesthetics and beauty, our individual feminine nature, and how we experience pleasure. Venus also shows us how we relate to each other, how we react within relationships because it also rules the sign of Libra. Aries is the portion of the zodiac associated with personal identity, it’s motto is “I Am.” The first sign of the zodiac, it is the cardinal (initiative) fire (spirit) that operates as the Masculine Principle. Aries wants what it wants, when it wants it. It’s the fire that opens the seed up and pushes the roots down and the leaves up. The first day of Aries is the first day of spring in the Northern Hemisphere.

While in Aries, Venus loves her independence. In this sign, we want what we want. And not only that, but that wanting becomes a part of our personal identity during this time. Folks with this placement in their natal charts (or Venus in the 1st House) know that it can cause us to be very into ourselves…like, there are other people in the world, you know? However, as a benefic in the chart, Venus provides grace and charm. So we might be self-obsessed at the moment, but at least we’re charismatic and fun to be around, right?

Because they embody very different energies, Venus is considered in her ‘detriment’ in Aries. This means her power is diminished, or that she isn’t quite up to full strength (as opposed to her being exalted in the previous sign of Pisces-pin in that). Aries is ‘what I want,’ and Venus kind of loses her relational vibes here. She’s all about pleasures and comfort, and Aries is a questing knight always on the move. She wants to connect with others and Aries has a one-track mind on their next conquest.

So! When a planet goes retrograde, it seems to slow down and back up in the sky. It doesn’t really do that, it’s just an illusion created by that planet’s orbit in relation to our own-but, interestingly it means that that planet is closer to Earth than other times. Venus also has a very interesting trajectory, it hits the same five points in the zodiac within a couple of degrees. Her full cycle takes about eight years, and her path describes a giant pentagram in the sky. The last time she went retrograde at this position was the spring of 2009.

The ancient peoples of the world also recognized another interesting feature of Venus’ retrograde motion. Most of the time she appears in the evening sky on the Western horizon, but as she goes retro she seems to set in the west. As she approaches her conjunction with the Sun, she disappears below the west for a week or two. Then she starts showing up in the morning for a few weeks, on the Eastern horizon with the sunrise! This is what the ancients called “The Morning Star”-you might have heard of her elsewhere by that name. This is Venus in her warrior armor. She’s usually the demure and coquettish vision we think of standing in a clamshell. As the morning star, she is wrathful and capable of defeating her husband (Aries, get it?) in battle. It’s a side of Venus we don’t really think about a lot, but it happens about every two years. (Side bar. Last time she went retro in summer 2015, spending four months in Leo-the sign of the heart-we got that old marriage equality in the US. Moon was in Libra, sign of relationships and because of its Scales totem, Justice.)

To synthesize all that, this Venus Retrograde is a journey of self-love! Any retrograde motion brings the energy of the planet inward (maybe because the planet is closer, we feel it more?). It makes us internalize the energy-and when that energy has to do with relating to others, we ask how we are a part of that equation. Retrogrades are a time to reconsider, reevaluate, reexamine. So the questions I think of about this time are things like, Am I doing what makes me happy and brings me pleasure? Am I who I want to be and am I becoming who I want to be? Am I standing in my own truth and moving in the direction of the things I want?

If we aren’t happy with the answers to those questions, the quality of this time will motivate us to make the changes necessary. If we are happy with those answers, I think we’ll experience small, quiet affirmations.

Additionally, because Venus has to do with love and relating, during her retrograde motion we might encounter people from our past. These encounters will put a spotlight on how these relationships have impacted us. We’ll have a comparison to gauge our growth and determine whether these relationships are or aren’t still a part of our identity (Aries).

And last but not least, Venus will re-enter the sign of Pisces as part of this retrograde! Venus is exalted in this sign, because she can connect to the Universal Mojo without the hindrance of ego that she experiences in Aries. I think of this like a spiritual baptism (is there any other kind, lol). On this journey of self-love and care, Venus dips back into the waters of Pisces. This identity crisis goes into the subconscious, is refreshed and continues on with new vigor. This time is a great opportunity to check that our values and actions are in alignment. Is my identity in line with Universal Will? Am I creating the kind of love I want to experience? How is my nature intrinsically connected to All Of Creation?

This is an exciting time! Because of this long-standing T-square (Jupiter in Libra, Pluto in Capricorn, Uranus in later degrees of Aries), there has been a lot of external pressures on all of us. This time is demanding that we check in with ourselves right now. We can’t be a good balance to our partners if we are not in balance ourselves. We can’t have good friends if we can’t be good friends. We can’t effect change in the world at large if we aren’t sure of our own intentions. This time is inviting us to look at ourselves and lovingly correct what is not in alignment.

Thanks so much for reading! Let me know what you think, and how your retrograde is going.

Cheers,

Will

P.S. Used my ephemeris for the dates, probably quoted SEXTROLOGY by Starsky and Cox, the Buddha Board at Golden Braid Books for my main image, and cited the sources for the images above.

Personal Post – Venus Retrograde

PERSONAL POST: My own journey through Venus retrograde the last couple of weeks has been rocky, to say the least. She’s been in my home base of Leo all summer, where I’ve got a stellium (3 or more planets in a sign, or a house, but in this case, the sign of Leo), including Mercury conjunct Mars (thoughts, intellect and communication fused with aggression, drives and sexual passion) and Sun (ego, consciousness, core energy).

Still with me?

When she started her retrograde and descent to the underworld, or through the southern hemisphere where we can’t see her, she shifted from the mellow, lovey western evening star to the warrior maiden eastern morning star (pictured here, though her beauty and light is not done justice). She was in my own intercepted (blocked, passed over) Virgo in the 6th. Retrogrades of any planet ask for a second look, a revaluation of those energies in the areas of life or houses where the retrograde falls. So my sense of Venus, my own worth and value and attraction, what I bring into me, was in my work and daily habits house. I began to experience a deep disquiet about how I was spending my time in my work, how non-valued I felt.

So I changed it. As she backed up into my 5th house of heart, creativity and passions, I decided to abandon the elements of my work that weren’t making me feel valued, weren’t adding to my happiness. I decided to follow my own heart.

The pressure Venus put on me is a large part of why I developed this website, and have decided to offer my services as an astrologer. Now she’s sitting right next to Mars in the sky (a powerfully sexy, sensual time, not without its own tensions), and right over my natal (birth) Mercury/Mars combo. So this is the perfect time for me to tell everyone about it! In fact, I feel almost driven to do so. See this long ass post? Ha!

How has Venus affected you? Please please share below!

If you aren’t sure where she falls in your chart, there are a number of places to find out – I like astro.com. But I could also read your chart and we could discuss where this happens in your life!

Hmu:)
