Full Moon in Aries 10/20 -OR- What I Learned During Mercury Retrograde

Hello,

The full moon is Wednesday this week, at 8.57am MDT, at 27° ♈ Aries.

Pluto went direct October 6, Saturn went direct late on the 10th, Jupiter went direct late last night of the 17th, and Mercury went direct this morning of the 18th. Forward motion!!!

Next new moon in Scorpio on November 4, as Mercury moves out of shadow zone! With Aries energy and things moving direct, might feel like a rush or big push to get things done the rest of this month.

Check out the video for more info, and for what I learned during this momentous Mercury Retrograde:

Cheers,

Will

New Moon in Libra 10/6

Hey y’all,

The New Moon is 5.05am MDT tomorrow morning, Wed the 6th at 13° Libra. Mars is also right on top of this around 12-13° Libra, so our directive will could feel off-balance with others’ needs. Mercury Retrograde will be around 19-20° Libra then so a wide orb but definitely in the mix. Venus moving into Sag by Thu, maybe we’ll have some more perspective then or at least a breath of fresh air.

Outer planets breaking up retrogrades, Pluto with the new moon later on the 6th, Jupiter and Saturn will station direct by the full moon. Lots of pent up energy about to be released.

Mercury Retrograde ends on the 18th, with the planet at 10° Libra. The full moon at 27° Aries is on the 20th. If things feel stuck now, there should be forward motion by then. Make sure your intentions are set right so you are pointed the way you want to go. Eyes on the prize.

Cheers,

Will

Mercury Retrograde in Libra!

Hey y’all,

Our fave starts this weekend, when you wake up on Sunday it will have arrived. She’ll last until October 18, are you ready?

Also get ready to support the IATSE strike. If we didn’t buy Oreos when Nabisco workers were striking, we don’t watch shows IATSE crews worked on (all of them) til they get their demands met. Are you ready to give up a little comfort to help the People? If you aren’t, you’re a punk bitch.

Cheers,

Will

The Generation Gap – or – “Why ‘Xennial’ isn’t a thing”

Hi everyone,

I’ve been seeing things being passed around on social media about a microgeneration between GenX and Millenials. THERE ISN’T ONE, Y’ALL. ‘Xennial’ isn’t a thing. Stop trying to make ‘Xennial’ happen. They used to call that nonsense “GenY,’ but this 2014 Atlantic article explains why that’s not a thing. Three years ago. So what began as an eye roll, here’s a perspective on the generational breakdown through astrology:

First, Pluto is the planet (I know it’s not really a planet, that’s what the bodies are called in astrology) of transformation. It’s the furthest out there, and it has a long orbit. With Uranus and Neptune, it is called one of the generational planets because the length of time it spends in each sign makes its effect more collective than personal. I’m also going to acknowledge that some astrologers are discussing whether or not Pluto still counts sans official planetary status, an false invention of the 20th century. In modern astrology, it’s considered to be the ruler of the sign of Scorpio. Scorpio’s attachment to the 8th Astrological House has to do with shared values and other people’s money; regenerative processes like sleep, sex, and death (think rebirth, like the tarot); and letting go or releasing energy. Wherever Pluto is in our chart, those deep, transformative processes are sure to be working in our lives. Pluto, as archetypical ruler of the underworld, can often show where we get into power struggles as well. Its placement shows where energies can erupt from the subconscious, from the molten core.

NOW. It’s my assertion, and other astrologers have probably touched on it, that our Pluto placement is really the indicator to which generational group we belong. I’m going to use the planetary dates in general, from the years that the planet shifted signs and didn’t go back. Pluto’s irregular orbit means that it spends more or less time in certain signs, and it’s retrograde period of about half a year means that it does spend some months and years going back and forth between signs. As a collective influence, Pluto shows the reaction of each generation to the previous one. As it moves through each sign, it slowly transforms the way the generation responds to the energy of the sign.

Without further ado, here is my exhaustively researched, sublimely eloquent, and ultimately definitive viewpoint on where the generational lines fall, according to astrology:

LOST GENERATION (Pluto in Gemini, 1883-1914, 31 years) Gemini is about communication and information, and this time saw mass media like never before. Newspapers, phonograph, photography, radio, telephone. Airplane and automobile. Industrial revolution, establishment of the fed, monopolies and trustbusters. This generation was decimated by WWI.

G.I. or GREATEST GENERATION (Pluto in Cancer, 1914-1939, 25 years) Cancer is the sign of the home, personal identity, and feeling. WWI followed by the Depression and Dustbowl shook us to the core, American identity had to be reformed. We took to insular politics for awhile, like a crab hiding in its shell. The bulk of those who fought in WWII born during this time.

SILENT GENERATION (Pluto in Leo, 1939-1957, 18 years) Leo is the sign of the King, and larger than life figures dominated their way through WWII. New Deal. United Nations is formed. Abuse of Leo power shown in McCarthyism. Korean War. Pluto’s 10th house placement in Leo meant that public life was changing, it was important to keep up with Joneses especially during this transit-everyone was watching you.

BABY BOOMERS (Pluto in Virgo, 1957-1972, 15 years) I actually think this might be my most controversial point. If you look at actual population growth post WWII, it is in these years that it really spikes. Virgo is a powerfully feminine sign and relates to the Everywoman/man, Kennedy and Johnson’s social programs were popping, time called Era of the Great Society. The bulk of the American civil rights movement happened during this time. In terms of Virgo practicality, we did things never before achieved like the moon landing. This time is also going from Korean War to Vietnam.

GENERATION X (Pluto in Libra, 1972-1984, 12 years) Libra is relationship, balance and harmony, the roots of democracy. This time period saw the end of Vietnam, improving relations with China, as well as the Freedom of Information Act and the Equal Rights Amendment. This is also the Sexual Revolution, people more openly questioning traditional gender roles.

MILLENIALS (Pluto in Scorpio, 1984-1996, 12 years) Pluto is in its domicile or at home in Scorpio: shared values through release and regeneration. Last generation before advent of social media, also last group to recall a pre 9/11 world. Scorpio destruction saw fall of Berlin Wall, dissolution of USSR, Yugoslavia. AIDS crisis during this time, putting sexual health at the forefront, also a Scorpio thing, as well as reproductive changes, test-tube babies, cloning and genetic engineering. Gulf War, Iran Contra, etc. Degeneration of lending practices sets up future Recession. Things get sneakier, more repressed?

PLUTO IN SAGITTARIUS (1996-2009, 14 years, the next one, haven’t been named yet): 9/11, War on Terror, have never seen a world without social media. Internet made borders obsolete, smartphones and social media brought people from foreign places (a Sag thing) together like never before while the Recession limited the resources of young people in ways not seen in almost a century.

PLUTO IN CAPRICORN (2009-2024, 15 years) This transit will transform the way we operate collectively. Capricorn is the sign of public life, legacies, and longevity, as well as moving through fear. This time will challenge all of us on how we operate together.  No pressure though. The war in Iraq, as well as the Syrian refugee crisis, mass shootings, and global increase in terrorism mark the changing nature of war, as Pluto is related to conflict.

Since this endeavor began as a response to the GenX/Millenial gap, here are the exact dates of the transition between these two generations:

  • Pre 10/5/1983 Pluto in Libra (GenX)
  • 10/5/1983-5/17/1984 Pluto in Scorpio (Millenial)
  • 5/18/1984-8/27/1984 Pluto in Libra (GenX)
  • Post 8/28/1984 Pluto in Scorpio (Millenial)

Cheers!

Will

P.S. I used my Pottinger/Michelson Ephemeris for reference, as well as The Only Astrology Book You’ll Ever Need by Joanna Martine Woolfolk and Astrology: A Cosmic Science by Isabel M. Hickey. I also glanced at some Wikipedia for the traditionally given generation names, and ourworldindata.org had some really useful information about world population growth over time.

P.P.S. I think the reason folks don’t feel like a GenXer or a Millenial is because the transition between the two energies marks a change. Going into 1984 was the end of the GenX Pluto in Libra energy. They might not relate to someone who came at the previous shift from Virgo in 1972. The progression of Pluto in Libra created a new outcome which led to the shift into Scorpio. Maybe the people in the middle of the time period feel more like a “real” GenXer or Millenial? Who knows…that’s the discussion, right?

Jupiter Retrograde in Libra 2/6-6/9

Hi everyone,

Just a quick note about Jupiter going retrograde at 23 degrees Libra last week on February 6. The retrograde motion of the planets is an optical caused by our relative orbit. They don’t really change direction, but our position during the course of the year makes them seem like they slow down and back up along the ecliptic. All of the planets (other than the Sun and Moon-and yes I know they’re not really planets, but that’s what they’re called alright?) go retrograde at some point during the year. Mercury, being the fastest, closest planet to the sun, goes retro at least three times a year. Venus and Mars, less often, go retro every 18 months to two years.

Jupiter is further out, and spends about a year in each sign. He entered the sign of Libra last September, and you can read more about what that means here. When he goes retrograde, he goes for a couple of months, a good chunk of the year. This time, he stationed retrograde on February 6 and will station direct at 13 degrees Libra again on June 9.

What does that mean? We tend to feel the personal planets’ retrograde motions more because they affect our personal energies more directly. Like the other retrogrades, the invitation here is to inwardly reflect. At this time, we are closer to Jupiter than the rest of the year, so the energy tends to be closer to home.

During the time since Jupiter entered Libra, we have experienced a great evening out of the scales. Jupiter expands and blesses whatever he touches, and in the sign of Libra, we are expanding personal relationships and balancing them out. We’ve made great progress and growth since September (also around the last eclipses), and now the retrograde motion of Jupiter is asking us to find the internal balance to match the balance we’ve been striking with others.

What has shifted in your life that requires attention internally? Jupiter is called the great benefic, associated with truth and justice and the philosophies that govern the lives of women and men. During this time, the inner balance is of utmost importance. If we lack personal centering, it will be impossible to find with others. Internalizing how far we’ve come since last fall is the focus as we move closer to the summer. How we have grown and created with our partners, friends, and open enemies (under the influence of Libra) will help us balance our subconscious, inner world.

Jupiter will exit the shadow zone of this retrograde around September 11, before shifting into the sign of Scorpio on October 10. The themes we encounter from now to June will resonate until then, so pay mind to what comes up in the next few months. It will affect your trajectory as Jupiter prepares to change signs this fall.

Cheers,

Willie

Full Moon in Aries 10/15

Hi everyone,

Been a bit distracted from looking up lately, but here’s a little post about the upcoming full moon.

The full moon is a time to take action. The moon is fully illuminated by the sun, without being in the earth’s shadow. This represents the subconscious/intuitive/shadow side of our nature being illuminated by consciousness. We know what intentions have been set under the dark new moon, and are able to take conscious action.

The new moon at the end of September happened in the sign of Libra (it was called a black moon because it was the second new moon in that month). The sun and moon are considered to be at the same place, or conjunct, at the new moon. This joining of the masculine and feminine, or the conscious and unconscious, gives birth to a new impulse of energy that grows through the full moon and wanes by the next new moon. In the sign of Libra, this moon cycle culminating with this Full Moon in Aries has to do with relationships, balance, and aesthetics.

The new moon is the time to recharge your batteries, make plans and figure out what you want to do. The full moon is the time to do all that stuff, because we have the conscious power to make it happen. If the new moon in Libra puts new focus on relationships, the full moon in Aries complements that energy by placing a conscious focus on the Self. Dance metaphor: you can’t find balance with your partner (Libra) if you don’t know what your own steps are (Aries). This focus on the self might feel empowering, and it might make some folks uncomfortable. I’d expect some personality conflicts since people will be very sure of what their own energy is and is not. The fiery passion of Aries might fuel conflicts that might not have happened otherwise, but it also might cause things that have been blocked to bust out. This full moon is one o’ those Supermoons, because the earth and the moon are closest at this time of year. Extra gravity pulling on your gravitrons or whatnot.

I don’t think everyone will be running around trying to fight, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least. I think people will feel very motivated by personal goals at this time, trying to wrap up lose ends by the end of the month. It can be inspiring to be filled up with all that fire energy!

Looking at the chart for today, Mars is exalted in Capricorn, conjuncting Pluto. This is excellent for making long-term plans and actually following through. This energy has the drive to build not only a castle, but an empire. The crazy thing about it is the T-square it makes with the Sun in Libra and Uranus in Aries. The Sun in Libra is making us aware of our partnerships as they evolve through this Libra Moon Cycle, and Uranus in Aries is revolutionizing our sense of self which we will be especially aware of during the full moon. Uranus electrifies whatever it touches, so the tension of this pull between the self and partnerships against long-terms goals and plans has an urgent, energized feeling. The remedy for a T-square is the energy that is missing, which in this case is Cancer. Which means that we’re not using our feeling self enough during this time. We’re missing the watery flow of emotions, so some empathy can go a long way right now.

Venus in Scorpio is still making everything all erotic and shit. Go get em.

Saturn in Sag is sure making the world an interesting place, no?

That’s ask I got for now. Thanks for following:)

Cheers,

Will

Jupiter in Libra til next September

—I drew that masterpiece with Jupiter in Libra artistic powers! 🙂

Jupiter is the planet of expansion and luck, called the Great Benefic. Related to philosophy and the pursuit of knowledge, Jupiter also carries with it a sense of justice. One of the generational planets, it spends about a year in each sign, affecting you by relation to other planets in your chart. Otherwise, it impacts those born around the same year as you collectively. Where it lands in your birth chart will show where you want to grow in this life, and can also indicate where you will receive opportunities and help.

Libra is the cardinal air sign, the first of the southern hemisphere (the top of the chart). The first six signs are related to personal development, and Libra is where we begin to consider others. Its totem is the only inanimate object of the zodiac, the Scales. Libra seeks to find balance-within and without. They are tactful peacekeepers on a high vibe and shameless shit-stirrers on the low, disrupting natural balances. They can be indecisive, not knowing the best course of action because they can get carried away in everyone else’s viewpoint. Being ruled by Venus, Libra’s external locus gives much importance to aesthetics. Creative energies are cultivated in earlier signs, but artistic means and expression really take off in the sign of Libra. This sign is like the light, shining on the surface of all things, and what is revealed and experienced in that seeing. This can create a form-over-function mentality in a Libra-heavy chart, as deeper probing and understanding, the real digging into dark, scary corners, are handled by the following sign of Scorpio.

Jupiter entered Libra last Friday and will be in the sign until September 11 of next year. This means that the qualities of Libra will experience expansion and growth over the next year, and the areas of your chart that Libra flows through is where you can expect to see those qualities blossom. We’ve been working on ourselves really hard the last six years under the supportive guidance of Jupiter thru Aries to Virgo. Now our relationships are going to benefit from that same nourishment. We might also experience a more profound connection to the arts and creative expression. This next year makes the Venus-ruled light of Libra shine like nothing else, and we will feel inclined to share the bounty of these blessings with the people in our life. We will be compelled to find the MOST BALANCE.

So this isn’t about people we see every day on our commute or at work, nor is it about the networks of friends or social groups with which we connect. This year is all about the one-on-one relationships in our lives. Libra is the natural ruler of the 7th house: The Other or what I Am Not, and Partnerships. Interestingly, the 7th is also the house of Open Enemies. This next year we will find our focus on trying to balance the people in our lives. This goes two ways, because the people in our lives will also be focusing on trying to balance with us. This is a great time to work on those relationships because both you and your partner will endeavor to come from a place of understanding. During this next year, we might find people helping us for no apparent reason and we might find that we can bring a special kind of medicine to others as well. The last time Jupiter was in Libra, I was in school and made friends and connections that I still keep in touch with to this day. We might find a bunch of new people coming into our life, and that’s awesome! We will feel able to balance what they bring to the table, and they will want to do the same. Conversely, if you have an epic beef, this year might help you confront those crazies and get everything out in the open. Fortunately, under Jupiter we will feel less inclined to go there (at least until he goes thru Scorpio:). You might be seeing the people in your life in a new light, and they will be seeing and assessing you, too. The focus on the balance elements of Libra are a guide here. Hopefully, we really spend this time getting in tune with each other.

Jupiter in Libra will draw awareness to the pleasure derived in beautiful things. Our sense of aesthetics will be very heightened during this time. We’ll have a renewed appreciation for storytelling, visual and performing arts, music, anything that appeals to the senses. Our desire to share things we might have created in such an endeavor will be greater as well. This is a perfect year to learn that guitar you always wanted to get into, to try that painting class you were nervous about, or to get into writing that next literary classic (like this blog right here:). You’ll have no shortage of inspiration while Jupiter is in this sign. The problem with this might be that old Libra indecision, doubting your creative impulses. Don’t! Just grow and create and allow Jupiter to do his magic. Or, we might feel like what we created isn’t as good as we imagined, our aesthetics might be so sharp now that we can’t live up to the vision in our heads. Again, Jupiter is trying to get us to grow, and sometimes that expansion is painful. But the rose couldn’t bloom if it stayed in its bud, you know? Trust the growth process and don’t be afraid to share, or to ask for help! This is such a brilliant placement for artists and creative-types. If that’s not you, it’s amazing still to get new ideas flowing. Libra is an air sign, having to do with mental energies and intellect. The ideas will be fairly bursting to get out during this time. Trust them and talk it out! You’ll never be better supported by others to bring those visions to life than this year. And the visions you have are so lovely. Share them.

Another thing I’m thinking about with this transit, is that because everyone experiencing a new blooming in their relationships, and those developments being expressed artistically all over, we will be inclined to share. A lot. We will be sharing all over the damn place. A lot of times with this sharing we will encounter ideas that don’t jive with us, but we will be in a place to really understand what seemed foreign to us before. And because Jupiter is strongly tied to ideas of social justice and equality, in this sign it will give a lot of people a lot of perspectives that they hadn’t stepped into and tried on before. I had a friend recently post about “social justice fatigue” on the fb, and I have to say we’re only at the beginning. This next year will highlight these kinds of issues, and I think a lot of the growth of this transit comes from how much talking we’re all going to be doing over the next year. We will all be seeing each other in a new light. It is my hope that our online and real life encounters over the next year will utilize this Libra Jupiter energy, and rather than fight to be right in these kinds of discussions we will truly hear what is being said to us and emerge with fresh ears to hear. Justice is a theme of this next year, and we will feel it personally and collectively. If it is unjust for any, it is unjust for all. This won’t be the year about people remaining silent and by default choosing the side of the oppressor. This is the year for us all to speak truth to power, for we truly have what is just and what is right on our minds. Bring it.

Overall, this transit will compel us to find balance and we will then find luck when do. Where this is located in your chart will indicate where you are seeking this balance. My friend and I were just talking as this begins in both of our sixth houses about work-life balance, and I just gotta soak up those lovely aesthetic vibes this morning! 😉

Go get em!

Cheers,

Will

P.s. There’s probably a bit of SEXTROLOGY by Starsky and cox in this here post.

P.p.s. used my ephemeris (and probably Shawn’s) to calculate some folks that are going to have a lot of growth this year, for some reason. Research nerd. Went back to the beginning of the last century, just in case there are centenarian readers out there.

Those who have Jupiter in Libra in their natal chart will be having a great time with their Jupiter Return! Only happens every 12 years. Expanding and blessing what are already your own magic powers:) Also coming back to the lessons Jupiter has to teach you from the time you were born. Those years are:

10/12/1909-11/12/1910

9/26/21-10/27/22

9/11/33-10/12/34

8/26/45-9/26/46 (Peace? Justice?)

12/14/56-2/19/57 and 8/8/57-1/14/58 and 3/21/58-9/8/58 (Jupiter’s normal retrograde cycle went over the cusp of other signs this time, and again in…)

11/16/68-3/31/69 and 7/16/69-12/17/69 and 5/1/70-8/16/70

9/22/80-11/28/81

10/11/92-11/10/93

9/26/04-10/27/05

If that’s you, we’ll done! You did it.

P.p.p.s. It is my warning now that any secrets, lies, indiscretions, etc. that you indulge in at this time WILL COME BACK TO YOU during the next year of Jupiter in Scorpio. The skeletons are all going to be dug out of the closet after this, so spend this buoyant year cleaning out that closet if you need to do so. The truth WILL come out, so trying to hide anything at this time will only dig you into a deeper hole. Snoochie boochies.
