New Moon in Cancer

Hi everybody:)

The new moon is on the 4th of July (Independence Day or Excessive Fireworks Party in the US:) at 4.03am MST. This is a powerful new moon because the Moon will be joining the Sun at 12° her home sign of Cancer. This is the sign of the Mother, the feminine source of life from which all life springs and is nurtured. Its element is water, and is the second cardinal sign. This marks a new quadrant in the zodiac, where the soul begins and we start feeling things deeply (the first three signs deal with the physical realm, the next three emotional, the next three mental, and the last three spiritual). Cancer is the seat of the soul as it were.

The Cardinal quality of the sign gives Cancer the ability to initiate energy and activity by the force of their emotions. Its connection to the moon makes this energy ebb and flow like the tides. The tidal flow as well as the currents of the river to the sea are the most apt analogies for Cancer energy. Cancer women, especially, are cosmically tied to this energy and indeed, their emotional tides are the water and waves. The men aren’t the waves in the literal sense the women are, they are riding the waves. It’s important for Cancer people to learn their flows, and in time they will be able to harness these changes. As young people, the emotions they so strongly feel can be overwhelming. When they are excited, they have a hard time CONTROLLING THE VOLUME OF THEIR VOICE. They have infectious moods and can feel other people like reading a book.

Cancer rules over the breasts (Mother, remember?) as well as the stomach. Many Cancerians have deep feelings and intuitions, and I always trust the gut reaction of those folks in my life. Its animal totem is the side-stepping Crab, and like their symbol, these folks can be very indirect in their approach. Also like the Crab, they can cling with tenacity to those things they love, like none of the rest of us can understand love. Security is a keyword with Cancer, in the sometimes harsh tides of life they seek to find a safe place where they won’t be tossed around by the waves. They carry their home on their backs (can be HUGE hoarders…like, I love y’all but COME ON), and can withdraw if they feel at all threatened (they often do, and can be fantastic hermits). The motto of the sign is “I FEEL,” and no one can do that like them. Their physical health is directly tied to their emotional health, if they feel depressed or frazzled they can and generally will quickly become sickly. They seek to nurture because they can understand, they seek nurturing from the churning tides.

So! The new moon is the time to lay low, rest and restore, make plans to be enacted as the moon waxes. This time is when the emotional place has no light from the sun, we are at our most raw and primal. Our emotional energies are subconscious, under the surface in the world below. The Moon here in her own sign feels at home, our emotional impulses will be strong, almost overwhelmingly so. Depending on your chart, this could trigger dreams or psychic impressions. I think it’s a good idea to realize the emotions that will be flowing are doing as they’re meant to, we might not understand our own motivations and deeply felt reactions consciously til later. Trust your feelings as the moon is dark, this is your subconscious speaking to you in a much stronger way than at other new moons. People might be dramatic af, to be perfectly honest, but everyone is going to be vibing hard on these flowing feelings. An important element of this new moon is the retreat thing: go recharge your batteries, get all up in your feelings and let the tide wash over you.

Goals and meditations during this time are connected to emotions, your past, your parents-especially your mom, your home, and your own private emotions. Cancer’s ties to the 4th house make everything very deeply felt and personal. People might not get all up in your shell, and you might not wanna come outta there. That’s OK. Because this, like my hilarious Cancer friend jokes in v public situations, “IS PRIVATE.” There will also be a juicy trine to Neptune in Pisces, the emotions will run deep and we’ll be primed to tune in to the Universal Frequency. More dreams and vibey psychic flows.

This new moon cycle is about the emotional drives, the search for security. By the time we get to the full moon, we’ll have to take concrete Capricorn action with all these touchy-feely vibes going on now. Soak up all the impressions and even the smallest feelings you experience now, they’ll help you in practical ways in a few weeks. It takes place in the 2nd decan, so it’s infused with Scorpio energy; according to Devore, the new moon will be nuanced by: “revelation, resourcefulness, energy; powerful emotions; the struggle with sex.”

Interesting features of this new moon! First of all, the Sun and Moon, Venus, and Mercury will ALL be opposition Pluto over there in Cap. There is a need to balance all these crazy feelings with the transformations we are all experiencing collectively. There might be power struggles if Pluto is pulling too hard, I’m thinking this might be work-related? Basically the pull from the security we’re v much aware of vs. our public obligations and transitions. We’re gonna be all up in our feelings, there might be friction.

The other balancing act I’ve mentioned in previous posts. It’s the opposition of Jupiter in Virgo and Neptune in Pisces. This is the dissolving of the subconscious into the Universe vs. the expanding day-to-day details we taking care of all the time. The pull between the soul-mind and the earth body. This opposition creates, with the Cancer/Capricorn opposition, what is called a Mystic Rectangle. That means that these two oppositions aren’t as tense or abrasive as say, the grand cross we just went through. It’s tighter angles, creating trines and sextiles that make the energy easier to deal with. There are flows easing the tensions, and helping to keep each extreme balanced. People with this aspect in their birth chart often have unusual gifts, insights, or viewpoints. So there’s a lot of craziness, but there’s also a lot helping us out during this new moon.

Trust your gut feelings and allow yourself to recharge and replenish during this time. Doing things will happen later, and you’ll have more insight if you’re rested and ready. Make a blanket fort and cry it out, alright? 😉

Will

Mars Stations Direct 6/29

Making these images on my snapchat cracks me up. Awesome that they have the zodiac stickers tho!

Anyhoo, I’m finally getting around to discussing Mars Retrograde. This started all the way back in April, around the 17th, when Mars stationed retrograde around 8° Sagittarius (really though, it started in February when Mars passed 23° Scorpio and entered the shadow zone). Mars resubmerged into Scorpio around May 28. Since last Sunday, he’s been slowing waaaaaaaaaay down. The moment when he stops going back, or stations direct (fancy astrology terms, baby!) is coming up in a few days on June 29. This means Mars will be hovering around 23° Scorpio for over three weeks, finally moving forward again by July 11! At the beginning of August, we’ll get back into Sag and by the end of the month, we’ll have exited the shadow zone.

So what does it mean? Mars is our drive, will, passion, our outgoing energy to achieve our goals. Mars rules Aries, the Ram, the First, the “I Am.” Mars likes to do what it likes to do, and doesn’t like to be told no or to necessarily consider others; that’s more Mercury’s job, right? Well in fiery Sag, Mars loves it because it’s pushing for your higher truth, goals related to travel and expanding horizons. When the retro started, that Mars energy that usually goes out, became refocused inward. We started reevaluating what our truth was, if we were really heading in that direction. THEN, Mars went back into Scorpio.

Mars traditionally ruled over Scorpio as well as Aries, when Pluto was discovered that rulership changed. The personal will becomes enmeshed with those closest to us. Am I doing this because I want to or because you need to? The personal power of the will becomes diluted, and that can cause Mars to chafe. We might be more aware, if not resentful, of our close ones making demands of our energy.

I’ve talked about this in various other posts, but the overall effect of this year’s Mars Rx seems to be really going back and digging up secrets, figuring out who we are going to merge wills with and who we are not, how those connections work for us. Once we’ve investigated our way out of Scorpio, we’ll take the truths we learned there into the light of Sagittarius and decide our own path. This process over these almost eight months (Mars rarely goes retro, and usually moves through the signs muuuuuuch more quickly) has tested our will in close bonds. By the end of the summer (Northern Hemisphere), we will have much more clarity and focus in terms of what we want to do, and we’ll be less entangled as we have been.

Personally, what I’ve noticed as an Aries Ascendant is that I’ve felt markedly more relaxed than usual. I’m often running around from thing to thing so fast that there’s not a lot of time for reflection. During this Rx, I’ve felt less impulsive and hasty. I take things slower than my normal breakneck pace. Like it’s more important to relax and be safe than be anywhere on time-not that I haven’t been punctual, but unhurried, unrushed. Even in times of conflict, I noticed that my usual reaction to crush any and all opposition was not on the surface. I’ve also been a little listless. I have had drama with my close relationships, but I’ve noticed that I’m talking more than fighting, listening more than doing. It’s been restful while seeming like an eternity-I felt early on that if I tried hard to do something, the resistance was so great it made the task impossible; when I stopped doing the Mars TRYING so hard, things flowed a lot easier.

So these next two weeks will be v interesting. I’m wanting to see if we’re going a little stir-crazy by July 11. My prediction is that we’re gonna feel a bit stagnant by then, like what is happenniiiiiiiioooiing? But after that clears and we’re done with the 8-month event in August, our will shall be in time with our higher truth. We’ll have dug deep into our relationships and have a force of will looking globally outward.

Let me know what you think! Any stories to share about the Mars Rx experience?

Cheers,

Will

Lil quick reference:

-2/19-Mars enters shadow zone at 23° Scorpio. Mars reached 29° Scorpio around March 4ish, and was into 0° Sag around March 7.

-4/17-Mars stations retrograde at 8° Sag.

-5/28-Mars back into Scorpio at 29°.

-6/19-Mars reaches 23° Scorpio again. Going very slow, he’ll be at this degree until about July 11. That’s over 3 weeks of Mars in the same spot.

-6/29-Mars stations direct.

-8/3-Mars re-enters Sag at 0°.

-8/23-Mars reaches 9°, emerging from the shadow zone.

Full Moon in Sagittarius Numbah Dos!

Heidy ho!

The SECOND full moon in Sag happens at 5.02am MST on Monday, June 20 (thanks zodiacarts.com for the timezone breakdown!). This is also called the Strawberry Moon, and was known in Europe as the Rose Moon or the Honey Moon (thanks almanac.com!). Much of what applies from my last post is still in effect, but the nuances are nuancier. A couple of key things are different, changing the tone. The last full moon was at 1° Sag, and this one is at 29.33°. The beginning of the sign and the last bit right before it becomes Capricorn. This suggests that we’ve made much headway on those Sag higher truth goals from the last full moon, but there is still work to be done to hone and perfect the energy. We still have to learn what is foreign, what is outside of our experience, we still need to follow our own higher truth. This full moon gives us extra fire to do so.

Last time, we were in Sun Taurus and Mercury was retrograde in that same sign. Mercury is now moving forward, and is even in it’s own sign of Gemini! Communication is flowing freely now, and isn’t so caught up in esteem issues.  The last moon cycle energy started in Taurus, and had to do with self-worth, values, standing on your own ground, and money. Then the first Sag full moon had to do with developing that self-worth into higher consciousness. This moon cycle happens in Gemini (the full moon JUST before the Sun shifts into Cancer), which means that the new moon and the full moon energies are tied into communication rather than what is solely yours. This time, the action taken on the full moon comes from your interactions with the people in your everyday environment. Your everyday exchanges (Gemini Sun) will be opposition your emotional awareness and duty to your higher calling (Sag Moon). Oppositions are either a tug of war or a perfect balance (all full moons are oppositions). Maybe you’ll feel compelled to get away from it all, take a trip or something. Maybe your everyday thing won’t be jiving right. Maybe you’ll feel surrounded by voices and opinions, and think, “None of that feels right.” This is the time to take action, the full moon, the intuitive/emotional nature illuminated by the light of the conscious Sun. What I’m saying is, you gotta do what you gotta do. Are your obligations working for you? Experiencing and hearing about plans falling thru, I’m not taking it personal, I’m conscious of everyone doing what they really need to do, regardless of my expectations. Examining expectations is definitely a Sag ideal, that sign ruling philosophies, religions, knowledge, etc. But! It’s communication that will open up this higher path. Gotta balance the Gemini and Sag energy. What do you engage (Gemini) and what do you let go (Sag, kinda)?

So the Grand Cross that the new moon in Gemini was a part of is reignited with Mercury’s current transit. I feel like maybe things are being talked about right now that happened during the new moon earlier this month? Mercury is opposition Saturn right now, so it’s a balancing act of communication and those grounding trials to that higher truth. This feels like a push/pull to me. We want to talk, but we’re pressed to follow our inner voice. We’re talking about what we felt before, maybe not feeling like we’re being heard? The new moon grand cross post, but put Mercury in for the new moon. Lolz. Do we feel like we can speak, or do we feel restricted by outside forces? Do we have something to say but hold our tongue because those hoes ain’t worth it? Things like this.

Something I’ll add on to this grand cross energy is that Jupiter is conjunct the North Node in Virgo trine Pluto in Capricorn. Jupiter is blessings and expansion, growing opportunities and the north node is soul destiny. Jupiter is also justice and harmony and all the good things, so there’s a feeling of the Virgo-detail energies being a big deal right now. Those day-to-day routines of service as well as self-care are a part of our destiny, the details are feeling important. Trine Pluto in Cap suggests that those energies will be practical and transformative. This can be huge for the bankroll, Jupiter expanding and Pluto(cracy) collecting those coins. This grand cross might not be fun, but the transformative energies seem to be for our benefit. Go there.

I haven’t done a post on Mars retrograde, but I’ve been sneaking it into these updates. Mars is still backing up through Scorpio until he stations direct again at the end of the month on the 29th. It’s only connection to this grand cross action is a quincunx (not directly across, but one sign over, unpredictable) to Uranus in Aries, and a trine (120°, most harmonious) to Chiron in Pisces. This feels like the will is hidden away, like maybe we’re not wanting to face things directly. With Mars being retrograde, as it’s the ruler of my chart, I’ve felt a distinct lack of motivation, maybe why I never got around to doing a full-fledged post. Like…I don’t wanna. Hahaha. It feels like charging in full force isn’t working, so let’s wait and see what happens. The thing about it right now is, this underground approach is low-key healing because of Chiron, the will and the wounded healer vibing out. And the connection to Uranus gives unpredictable, explosive insight to the will. This could be moments of breakthrough, but also moments of breakdown. With Mars retrograde, the will is redirected inward. In the sign of Scorpio, Mars is subdued by the will of the close, bonded relationships in your life. An uncomfortable element of this could be feeling stifled in your unions (lots of breakups during this Mercury and Mars retro). The will is directed inward, is bound by the needs and desires of others (hint, doesn’t like to be), and all that energy is digging up all the skeletons in all the closets. Mars is going back and digging up at the Scorpio secrets, but right now is given healing by Chiron (though it can hurt) and unpredictable surges of energy by Uranus. Lay low! Heal and vibe out. The craziness of the grand cross is happening around you, you don’t need to approach any of that mess directly. And with the full moon theme, if that mess ain’t working for you, it’s time to clean house. Scorpio is where the secrets get unearthed, Sagittarius is where we look at them, informed, in the bright fiery light of day. This Mars retrograde for me, personally, has felt a bit like the end of my Saturn return last summer: thinking about letting go of what is not mine, etc. It’s been a trip.

The OTHER crazy thing about this full moon is that the summer solstice happens the same day! The Sun moves into Cancer around 4.30pm MST. This is a rare event to have the full moon and the solstice and won’t happen again for decades. It will be the longest day of the year, so we will have extra time to soak up all that fire before we get onto watery Cancer summertime:) This Monday is a big day, lots of energy shifting happening. The Sun is preceded by Venus. This brings our focus to how the world feels. Cancer is the first water sign, it has to do with the ebb and flow of the tide (Cancer rules the moon), and the waves and swells that ensue. Cancer’s keyword is security, moving forward from the Gemini communication. Not just what is mine and how do we exchange, but what is my home, what is my refuge from the changing tides, what is my security? Cancer is the sign of the Mother, it’s glyph suggests breasts or ovaries, or testes in the male. Cancer is a female-aligned energy, as all water and earth signs are. It’s the ancient sea goddess before Apollo at Delphi, suggesting older matriarchal societies. Cancer people feel very deeply, and can feel the currents of other people’s emotions. They are incredibly intuitive, any time a Cancer has a gut feeling, trust them. It’s the feminine source of life, springing from the fountain of youth rather than the next sign of Leo, the authoritarian force of will. So get ready to be all up in your feelings! Venus there is already making us aware of how comfy or home is right now, we’re wanting pleasant surroundings where we live. When the Sun gets there on Monday, all this physical body/practical Taurus, chatty/mental Gemini and fiery/philosophical Sagittarius energy gets washed out in some good old-fashioned feelings!

Thanks for going along with my chatty, chatty swiping finger today, and for your support in general. Hope any of this made sense:)

To write this, I used my trusty empemeris (the same one), and the resources mentioned above.

Cheers,

Will

New Moon in Gemini

Hi there,

The new moon in Gemini happens this Saturday the 4th at 8:59 pm Mountain Standard Time. I may or may not have said Sunday in the video, so…my bad.

Decided to do a lil video update since this new moon is in Gemini.

Don’t think I got to it in the video, but also interesting rn is Mars Retrograde, currently in Scorpio. Retrogrades make energy closer, more inward because the planet itself is actually closer. Lots of internalized energy in terms of will and passion. This had been in Scorpio for awhile, was in free Sag for a bit but now we’re back. More skeletons in the dark Scorpio closet, maybe more things to let go of from the past. Issues in expressing will in close, bonded relationships; maybe this internalized Mars energy has you or your close partners acting in different ways? Dunno but in general, lots of scheming, especially in this chatty Gemini weather. All under a grand cross as well, so there are a lot of things coming to a boil right now. Keep an eye out.

I referenced ENCYCLOPEDIA OF ASTROLOGY by Nicholas Devore, THE NEW AMERICAN EPHEMERIS FOR THE 21ST CENTURY by Rique Pottenger based on Michelsen, and THE ONLY ASTROLOGY BOOK YOU’LL EVER NEED by Joanna Martine Woolfolk.

Full Moon in Sagittarius

The full moon is currently exact at 1° Sagittarius. Full moons happen when the sun and moon are in opposite places in the sky. The sun just entered Gemini yesterday, and the moon got round to Sag today.

As opposed to a new moon where plans get made, full moons are the time to take action. The full moon should be the time we enact the intentions we made during the new moon, and wind down those actions to a close to prep for the next new moon. This is also the time when our primal, inner nature (moon) is illuminated by consciousness (sun). We’re more aware of our subconscious at these times, the shadow within us gets lit! That’s why full moons seen to make people act over the top-because they’re charged with the full energy of the sun.

The last new moon in Taurus (check out that post, too) should help us with self-esteem, willpower, and even our self-worth in terms of money. This Sag full moon is the zenith of this lunation. If we have our Taurus energy in tune, the path to this Sag life should be set before us. Sagittarius is the sign of higher truth. It’s opposite sign, Gemini, wants to talk it out and express their viewpoint by juxtaposing the ideas of those around them. Sag doesn’t take others into account so much. Sag wants to expand, travel, and understand the world according to a brighter, more ‘divine’ truth. Sag rules things like foreign places, higher education, philosophy, belief systems including religion, and there is also a strong medical bent. Sag wants to see the world and come to its own conclusions about it.

If you are standing on stable ground, like we’ve been working on during this Taurus new moon, then the path to your higher truth should be easier to tread. If your self-worth is intact, you won’t question these harder truths that get brought to light under the Sag full moon. There’s also a sense of secrets coming out of the dark moving from the previous sign of Scorpio into Sag. We dig things out and look at them under the light. We might be more enmeshed with others under a Scorpio influence, but this Sag full moon is about trusting your intuition and unentangling yourself from others. Freedom is a huge facet of Sagittarius energy, and under the bright power of the full moon, your wanderlust might be ignited, especially if you have a lot of Sag in your chart.

An aspect of this full moon that is quite interesting is that it is conjunct Mars. This means that the full moon becomes inextricably entwined with the energy if Mars, which is currently retrograde, backing up from Sag into its sovereign sign of Scorpio. Mars retrograde makes us reevaluate our will and how we fight, flee, or f#$!. We will be especially fiery during the next couple of weeks during the waning moon. If someone gets in our way, we might be inclined to take it personally and attack them with this Mars. However, if we can realize that our feelings/intuition/subconscious (moon) are linked with our aggression/passion/lust (Mars), these situations might not turn ablaze. Just remember that fire can keep us warm, but it can also scorch if we’re not careful. And we’ve got plenty of fire to spare for awhile.

Also, tomorrow is crazy because Mars will be directly opposite the Sun. This opposition brings the god of war very close to the earth, making his energy very immediate and urgent. The tension of the opposition can be very frustrating, like the outside world is conspiring against you. Don’t give up hope! Just remember that a opposition is a tug of war or a perfect balance-keep your consciousness in balance with your drive (even though the latter wants to take over), and you’ll be able to keep your wits about you.

So go out there and get it done! You are the one who knows what’s best for you right now. Now’s the time to do what you need, and not to check in with others for feedback. Your path to the higher plane is lit up, don’t get distracted by what seems to be setbacks or people opposing your will. Disengaging with others and engaging with yourself and what you know to be true is the ticket now. No one knows as well as you where it is you need to go.

Godspeed and Cheers,

Will

New Moon in Taurus

The new moon this evening occurs at 16° Taurus. New moons are a time to plant seeds that will grow into the full moon and pass my the next new moon. These cycles are said to be a time when the light of consciousness (sun) shines over the dark of our subconscious (moon), so we are more primal and less aware at this time. It’s important to channel your intentions in a way that is constructive, rather than excessively or destructively compulsive. New moons are also good times for gauging what is working and what isn’t from the last moon cycle.

With the new moon in Taurus the focus is on creating and relishing in your personal value, developing the senses, and finding solidity within yourself.

Taurus is related to the 2nd House of Values. This isn’t in relation to anyone else, this is only within yourself. It’s what you value and how you value it. This is what’s ‘mine.’ My money, my self-esteem (how much I value myself), my food, my drinks, my stuff, my my my, etc. This isn’t to say that Taurus folks aren’t generous, they just know what’s theirs, y’know? The new moon here gives new impulses to how you value what is yours.

Taurus folks are very sensual, being ruled by Venus, the goddess of love, beauty, and aesthetics. If you have a lot of Taurus in your chart, you might be a foodie or wine connoisseur, you might be into your fashion, the point is you really love your senses and you always want them to be stimulated in a way that is comfortable and usually stylish. A new moon here can stimulate the senses, giving new appreciation for old things or deeper appreciation of how your body can make you feel.

Taurus is the sign of the Bull, and its natives are known for being immovable objects. They might not be aggressive, but when provoked they might gore you through and stomp you to death. This is extreme. Their Venutian qualities tend to prevent such circumstances, but I’d they have made up their mind to something or not, that thing will or will not happen regardless of anyone’s outside input. A new moon in Taurus suggests developing the will. It’s the first earth sign, and first fixed sign, so it’s the solid ground within yourself on which you stand.

Something else about this new moon is that Mercury Retrograde will be passing over the same point, 16° Taurus, around May 14 and 15. If you made a decision now, it might come under review, possibly scrutiny, in about a week or two, and then again right around the end of the month on the 30th and 31st. This will be expressed through Mercury, so thru communication and intellect rather than a more emotional or spiritual channel. You will be learning a lot as Mercury passes over your new moon intentions; about your self-esteem, how you value money and collect it, how your body feels and supports you and vice versa. Get into your senses and trust the ground on which you’re standing. If you can do that, this Mercury Rx over this new moon will be a great time to find out why and make constructive changes.

Hope you have a great new moon, thanks for following my stuff!

Cheers,

Will

P.S. I used this image from Astrologer Bill Attride. Thanks!

Mercury Retrograde: April 28-May 21

Using my trusty ephemeris, Mercury Retrograde started on April 28 and goes until May 21. The god/symbol of communication appears to go backward in the sky, relative to earth’s orbit. This happens a couple of times each year, and this time it goes back from 23° Taurus to 14° Taurus.

What does that mean? It means the first time Mercury hit 14° Taurus was about April 15. At that point we entered the “shadow zone,” the area that is passed, reversed over and passed again. Three times Mercury goes over the same space! Wherever those degrees of Taurus land in our chart will be evaluated and reevaluated, those degrees get the third degree, you know what I’m saying?

They say that during Mercury Retrograde you shouldn’t sign contracts or make serious life decisions. But there’s almost a month of it this time, you can’t just sit around and do nothing til May. We’re just processing information in a different way. It might seem like there are breakdowns regarding anything to do with communication: actual conversations, emails, texts, etc. People have a harder time understanding others and being understood. Mercury rules communication, rational thinking and information processing, how we think basically and how we express our thoughts. When it backs up and goes over the same area like this, our thoughts collect themselves differently.

There are a lot of different interpretations of this. In ancient times it was considered a bad omen, no transactions would occur if the gods did not agree. In a more contemporary sense, it is a frustrating time because the messages aren’t getting through. Because retrogrades happen when the planets are closer to the earth, some say that the energy is internalized rather than outwardly expressed, the planet goes to the ‘underworld.’ This might account for communication breakdown during Mercury Rx because what normally goes out to other people goes instead to the inner life. We aren’t thinking the same way.

In the sign of Taurus, all I can think with this Rx is “got my mind on my money and my money on my mind.” Taurus is the 2nd zodiac sign and is associated with value: worth, esteem (especially self), your coins, etc. Taurus wants pleasant surroundings to enjoy all the senses, very much in the body. It’s the first fixed as well as earth sign, this makes Taurus generally calm but immovable. So with Mercury flying around in our zone of things that are ‘mine,’ we might have some communications that might not go anywhere. Everyone is reevaluating their self-worth, self-esteem, how those coins are piling up (or not). This makes everyone defensive of what is ‘mine.’ Mercury is going over everything with a fine-toothed comb, and we might bristle as our sense of self worth seems challenged. You also might be thinking about the way you collect money, is it working for you, are you getting paid your value?

The reason they say not to make life decisions during Mercury Rx is because generally when it’s over and we’re back through the shadow zone, you’ll feel more like yourself again. These times of intense scrutiny, especially right now over what we hold to be dear, to be part of us, can be very trying. My thing over the last couple of days when I feel there are hiccups in communication is to kinda shrug it off, jokingly say, “It’s Mercury Retrograde,” and move on. If I can see the conflict, I’m not going to escalate it in any way. Of course, if there’s some major stuff you need to change or confront, you gotta do it. It’s never more important to be perfectly clear than in these times when people are likely to misunderstand. Don’t use your communication to fight, but fight to communicate.

Mercury will go forward, or direct, again on May 22. This will be the last pass, so hopefully everything got settled during your retro. We’ll pass 23° Taurus again on June 8, and at that point our ccommunication, especially in relation to our self-value, will move into new territory.

Thanks for reading my stuff, even when I post about Mercury Rx as it’s already happening.

New Moon in Aries, Full Moon in Scorpio: #mars

The new moon on 16° Aries was April 7, real early in the am. I happened to wake up and wonder when it would be, and when I looked it up, it was happening right then. It was before 6 am. Anyway.

New moons are when the moon is not reflecting the sun’s light, and they are considered to be in the same sign. It’s a time to set new goals because it’s a new cycle of energy. Some astrologers say it’s when we’re most primal because our inner world/emotions/reactions (moon) has not yet been illuminated by our consciousness/awareness/ego (sun). I like to think of it like natural progressions, cycles of regeneration where the energy is expressed in the houses of the chart. For instance, this new moon happened in my 1st House, so it’s a new cycle of awareness in terms of my own independent physical energy, presence and vitality.

The new moon in Aries is about new beginnings. Aries is the first sign, and in western/tropical zodiac always begins on the first day of spring. This is the energy that pushes a little seed to sprout, the spark of divine fire (Aries’ element) that gives life to us all. So the focus through this moon cycle is very much about the “I Am” (Aries’ motto). It’s a new phase of personal energy. Depending on where this lands in your chart, for example, if this was in your 8th house, you might be thinking about how your personal energy meshes with those closest to you, how do you exert your will in close, bonded relationships? If it’s in your 6th, you might be wondering if your job is feeling right, or maybe that you need to take care of your health and diet in a different way.

This isn’t the kind of new beginning that feels like the end of something else. This new moon in Aries is all about you, and things that are exciting and new for you. It’s definitely very close to Uranus who has been camped out there for a couple years, and will be there for awhile. Uranus is the Awakener, so these new impulses have am electric quality. They are sudden and epiphany-ish. It’s not comfy-cozy. If you know who you are and what you’re fighting for-all Aries stuff-then you might have a jolt of lightning behind your actions, things might spring up quickly. You might be able to advance your ideas to the future. If you are not sure who you are or where you are headed, I think Uranus might have some surprises for you. You gonna get WOKE THE F#^! UP. Uranus won’t let you stay in a place that’s not working for you, so you might be busting out of other people’s ideas of who you are. Go with it, man.

Another thing I’m thinking about with this Aries new moon is that Mars is about to go retrograde. Mars is the ruling planet of Aries, so they stay connected. Mars in the chart represents fight, flight or f#^!, it’s how we express aggression and lust and how we go get what we want. I think this new moon cycle for us all is about realigning with the true “I Am.” We might have a plethora of new ideas, but with Mars slowing down and going back, we might feel stifled or thwarted when we try to direct action toward an intention. This will force a careful reflection of what we really want and HOW we go about getting it. I’m also wondering if everyone will feel like everyone else is stepping on each other’s toes.

So that’s neat. A new impulse of electric energy. Who is “I Am”?

Then the other side of this moon cycle is the full moon in Scorpio. This is kinda crazy because both Aries and Scorpio are traditionally ruled by Mars, but it’s different kinds of expression. Aries will get hot-headed in your face and be very outwardly open about things while Scorpio will be less reactive while plotting revenge years down the line. Different sides of Mars. In more recent times, Pluto has been given co-rulership of Scorpio, which has to do with regeneration, long-term decay and regrowth, and the merging of different entities into one. Both signs are about new beginnings, but Scorpio must pass through death to be reborn. And unlike Aries, which is all about “me,” Scorpio is all about “us.”

The full moon in Scorpio happens April 22, and I believe it’s 2°. The full moon is when our inner world is fully conscious of itself, it’s when the light of the sun has shone its stuff into our subconscious. If you took care to plant seeds during the new moon, this is the time those seeds with bear fruit. So the new moon, lay low. Full moon, take charge.

The full moon in Scorpio takes the impulses from the Aries new moon and adds a twist: it’s going to be through those closest to you that you will be able to get what you want for yourself. This is making me ask if your goals are enmeshed with your dearest ones, if those closest to you will help you and vice versa. Scorpio is like Hades and Persephone, so this is like some intense soul-bonding shit. It’s going to be through the actions of others that your goals come to be.

Mars will be retro at that point, so you might also be experiencing a bit of a struggle with your close ones. You both might be at a loss how to have your own agenda within this union where what you share is at the forefront.

This is all I can think of at the moment, and I better post this before my phone deletes everything! Ha.

The 1st House

My rising sign is Aries, so the Sun is currently in my 1st House. I thought it would be fun to talk about houses as I’m going through them, and off I go.

In a (western/tropical/circular) chart, your rising sign is the one that cusps the leftmost spoke where it usually says AC. That stands for Ascendant, and it’s portion of the zodiac that was coming over the eastern horizon at the time of your birth (also why the left is called the east portion of your chart, the opposite of looking at a map because you’re looking up-something I read somewhere). And that’s why it’s important to know the exact time of your birth when looking up your chart, because your rising sign and 1st House set up your whole journey through life.

The signs of the zodiac have a natural affinity with the houses. The 1st House and Aries energy are connected, as well as Taurus energy and the 2nd House, and so on through Pisces energy and the 12th House. The signs are how the energy is expressed and the Houses show where in your life you express that energy. Everyone has some expression of all the signs in the zodiac. The amount of planets you have in a certain sign or certain kind of sign will energize and activate those areas of your life in relation to the energy of the planets. The planets are the “Players.” Their placement at the time of our birth endow us with certain superpowers, as I like to think of it, and show us our strengths and weaknesses. The movement of the planets through our houses then energize other areas of our lives. For instance, Saturn returns to the place where we were born around the age of 30 and the midlife crisis around the early 40’s are usually in time with the Uranus being in the opposite place from when we were born.

So!  The Ascendant and the whole 1st House is like Aries’ motto, the great ‘I AM.’ Everything that you think of as being ‘you’ comes from the 1st House. Your personality, physical traits and habits, how you engage conflict or not, your whole concept of yourself. This is usually why people say they aren’t like their Horoscope. The energy you give off one-on-one is coming from your 1st House and is expressed by your Rising Sign. So for example, if you have Venus in your 1st, you are probably very charming and give good first impressions, there might be something very alluring or attractive about your personality, etc. If Saturn is in the 1st, you might feel like your ego is restrained in some way, like you shouldn’t get too big for your britches or something, or it could also mean you are very grounded and structured in your sense of self through trials and learning.

The 1st house is important because it’s how you start off your journey through life and the 12 Houses of the Zodiac. It’s like being a baby and realizing you have toes. I have a body! This is me! Boom! It also tells you which planet is the ruler of your chart, based on your Ascendant. Mine is Aries, so the ruler of my chart is the planet Mars. Mars becomes a touchstone in reading my chart, because it is connected to my 1st House, my body, myself. The aspects, some astrologers like to say ‘conversations,’ that other planets make to my ruling planet Mars show where energy flows freely or is bound and distressed in my chart. Your ruling planet shows major drives and possibilities for you to explore in your life.

So let’s say you have a bunch of planets in your first house. A grouping of three or more planets in a house or sign is called a stellium. There are points on the chart like the Ascendant, that can also be grouped into stelliums. When a stellium occurs, the planets involved all become fused and the energies of the planets become indistinguishable. If your Sun and Moon are in the 1st, creating a stellium with your Ascendant, you are very consciously and emotionally aware of yourself. Your outer and internal worlds are intertwined with your very identity. A stellium in the 1st could mean you have a powerful charisma and vitality to your presence, it could also show a likeliness to get so caught up in yourself that you have a hard time seeing other people’s viewpoints. The 1st House is all about you.

Since the Sun has been in my 1st House (since March 22), I’ve noticed a couple of things. I’m not as soupy as I was in the 12th house, and less apt to second-guess myself. The Sun loves to be in the 1st House because it shines its vitality into your personal being. Our awareness and energy get a boost of life-force. I’ve felt more grounded and in tune with my Aries Rising energy, ready for anything and itching to start. On the flip side, I have realized the force behind my personality comes out in a warlike, Aries/Mars way since the Sun has been up in there. I was having a conversation with some friends recently, and me not thinking, shouted out everything my loud mouth could think of. Next thing I know, everyone was withdrawing from me and one friend even left. My outburst had extra oomph behind it, and without realizing how much fire/Aries/Mars I was putting out, I kinda burned everyone. So that has been making me think about ways to use that energy in constructive ways, rather than just lashing out.

What is the I AM? It’s all in the 1st House.

Cheers,

Will

P.s. if I think of more stuff, I’ll add on.

P.p.s. I’m also going to be recommending resources for you to look at if you want more astro info.

A book I really connected with at the beginning of my journey was Sextrology by Starsky & Cox. Fun and relatable with a bit of scandalousness on the side, it breaks down all 12 signs by gender. Really a breakthrough for me in terms of thinking about how different zodiac energies express themselves.

If you want to look up your chart, check out astro.com! Lots of free info, articles, etc.

Thanks again!
